I would love to have photoshop and they have a great deal now but I cannot afford it yet. Someday I would like to have it. I was wondering if anyone has ever attended one of these Photoshop tours (http://www.photoshopseminars.com/class/110/)? It is coming to an city within a few hours drive. I don't know if people bring lap tops to these or they just demo things or have computers there for you to try stuff. If it required a computer with software of your own, I couldn't do it. Just wondered if it was worth while. I have a birthday in March and this would make a great present if DH sent me away for the day to learn more about photoshop:D

Hi Lynn,
Yes, you can bring a laptop to one of the Photoshop summits and play along if you want. No, they don't provide laptops there for you to use.

The seminars are fairly fast paced and very informative. If you're fairly proficient with Elements, then you'll probably have no problem understanding what's being taught, and many of the techniques can be translated to Elements.

One thing you might want to consider is to download the free 30-day trial version of Photoshop CS2 and play around with it prior to the seminar, just to give you a head start.

Hi Lynn ...

Being in the UK I don't often get a chance to visit any of these :D ... but the year before last Scott Kelby brought the Down and Dirty tour to a venue not far from my home.

Even though, at that time, I only had Elements I went to it and I enjoyed every moment of it ... some people did take their laptops but I decided not to bother. If its still the same then you get a book with all the class notes in it :)

Yes, I have gone to as many of these summits and photoshop tours, as I possibly can get to. I love them! I do NOT take my laptop, because they are so fast paced, and the presentations so incredibly well done, that trying to "follow along" gets me lost in following his thread. They provide BEAUTIFUL workbooks which detail every single step that the presenter took to do a task, and so, THAT's where I put my efforts, when I get home--at my own pace, and not risking "missing" a step because I was busy trying to do the last one as the presenter travelled along through the day. The workbooks have extra wide margins, and marginal notes on something tricky or special that the presenter did go right in there, and no fishing through papers when I get home...... They're worth every penny, IMO and if one's in your neighborhood --go for it!

Happy Birthday!!!

Thank you for your comments, all! There's a tour coming to OK city and I was sitting on the fence about going....now I think I must. I think I will call it an early birthday present for me as well!

DH said yes, so I signed up. I'm sure it will be fun to take a day off of work and school to do something fun. Wish I had someone who would be interested in attending with me. It is about 1-1/2 hour drive each way.

My Dr. let me start skating this week. For the toe, skating feels much better than walking but the rest of me knows how out of shape I've become after 3+ months off. I just got back the rink. I'm affraid to do more than skate circles around the rink to build back my endurance. I start my lessons again on Monday so that my coach can help me avoid doing anything stupid. I also got The Scrapper's Guide to Elements 5 and my Make Fido Famous CDs which I was about to check out.

Hi Lynn ...

Sounds like you are recovering well now ... but do take it easy and gentle :)

When is the Photoshop Forum ?? ... maybe some of the others will be going to it. Just wish that I could :)

I was wondering about this myself. There is one in March which is a 3 hour drive oneway from my home. Don't know if I should go or wait until one is in a town a little closer. (Of course, no town on the current schedule is). I love watching Photoshop TV and Killer Tips and know if would have to be fun.
