Printer Problems

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 900. I contacted the Epson help desk but they didn't help. So I'm coming to my friends here at the forum in hopes that someone knows why my printer is malfunctioning.

When I print for the first time of the day (also after the printer has been sitting idle for awhile) I get light red horizontal lines throughout the photo I'm printing. I have tried cleaning the heads several times, there are no gaps in the printing, just extra red lines. It almost looks like the graph paper I used to use in algebra when I'm done printing only there's a photo on the paper too.

Has anyone had this problem? Would you have tips as to why this is happening, and what if anything I can do to clear it up.

I'm trying to bide my time until I can save up for a new printer.

Sounds like it may be a hardware problem. Hopefully there's some info here that can help you!

Jodi: Thank you so much for your help. I read through all of the posts you sent and I'd have to agree, that it is a hardware problem. Since some of the prints come out fine and I JUST bought a new cartridge, I will suffer through it for now. Then I'm off to buy a new printer.

I have Epson Photo 960 and I have gone to the Epson site and downloaded upgrades to the driver. Have you checked Epson site? I can't remember how I navigate to it but if you can't find it I will go in and see what I do. Does it do it with the printed page also? Janet

Janet:

Yes, the red lines happen on printed text only pages too. The curious thing is that it happens usually only on the first-third pages printed. After that it usually stops. So the work around that I've done is print 2 or 3 more pages of the same sheet than I need and then I usually get a clean one.

I have gone to the Epson site and downloaded the drivers.

Please let me know if the drivers help. Enquiring minds want to know. I was thinking just print a few low quality papers. Save and print the other side.(just like you said) It should not be that way, but sometimes you just have to go with the flow when you tried it all. Janet
