View Full Version : Trouble with CS3
I cannot move my image views around like I can with Elements. Once in a while it works but most of the time it does not. I don't know if this is a CS bug. It makes it really hard when your trying to copy from one image to another or just to move something out of the way. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi Lynn ...
It should work in just the same way that Elements does ... I am using CS2 not CS3 but I haven't come across any reports that it behaves any different ...

My troubles continue. I've installed it on both of my computers and I have the same trouble. I have no idea why I do but others don't. I posted a question to NAPP and they said there is only one mode you can move windows around in. Unfortunately, I'm in that mode. I did discover that if I click correctly in the upper left corner icon of the window there is a move option. Of course if you it without thinking and cover it up, you'll never move it again or so it seemed. I did that by accident but later discovered that I could get it back to center by choosing full view mode. I like CS3 but this is REALLY getting to me because this is such a basic function which worked for me in 4 other versions of the software.
How wasn't sure about using the bridge vrs the organizer but I've manged to corrupt the organizer by moving files in the bridge and cannot even bring up elements anymore so I guess it is time to reorganize and move to the bridge. I think I'll like it better when I get use to it. Since my time is limited I just wanted to concentrate on the tool before learning the bridge. It is just to bad I couldn't import some of my tags for elements as keywords to the bridge. I've also had trouble down loading from the camera to the bridge, guess I'm going to have to go through that tutorial again.

I've been using CS 3 for several weeks and I've not had any problems moving views or coping or dragging one image to another. (assume you're talking about the standard screen mode). Are you talking about the MOVE TOOL(V)? My move tool works fine as normal. Mine is never covered up though, no matter what screen mode I'm in, so maybe I'm not understanding something correctly.
Bridge is a little buggy still. I downloaded the lastest update, but still a little unstable, but I'm able to drag from bridge into photoshop, assign ratings and everything fine with it.
Not sure of what you're problem is with CS 3. Maybe something in preferences is just set up differently, although I don't know what that would be. Good luck.
I have no idea either and Adobe hasn't been any help. Yes I'm in standard mode. The tools work fine. You can have multiple images open in the editor. I'm referring to a window as 1 image. In standard mode there is a bar at the top of the window that if you click on you can slide the window over a bit to see another window (image) under it. It is hard to drag from the layers pallet onto another image when you cannot tell what the one under it is. I've accidently dropped a layer into the wrong image. I've used Elements 2, Elements 3, Elements 4 without any problems. Once in a great while (less than 2% of the time) it works in CS3. I have no idea what setting would change this and why it works a very small percentage of the time.
It is my understanding that with a student copy I have the full Extended version, the only differece is the license as far as upgrades and I cannot use it for profressional use (sell what I create with it until I upgrade my license). However, I'm wondering if the student versions are not truely equal because it is quirky. This is the only consistent quirk but I've run into a few others; for the most part it works great except for this.

Hi Lyn ...
The student version are identical to the full version so I don't think that can be the problem ..

I have noticed the issue also. It is not as easy to see several pics open at one time. In elements we have the photo bin where it was easy to access. In CS3, up on the option bar, go to arrange then you can choose vertically or horizontally etc. If you press the F key it will jump thru several options till you get the one that you can resize the current window down. That's the only way I have been able to drag from one pic to another. Hope I helped.
Have you tried changing the screen mode with the button on the bottom of the tool bar? I think that the F key does the same thing. Those should work for you.

Hi ...
Have you tried Window>Arrange>Cascade ... (its that in CS2 so hopefully CS3 will be the same)
Wendy :)
Yes, I can probably use the cascade if I get one that is hard to get to, but that places them really close together so I still have to take extra steps to move it out of the way so I can see the order they are cascaded in. Dragging the size of the window works about as well as dragging it out of the way. I am learning which work around works best for me. Thanks for the suggestions but I'd still like a fix. I'm learning to live with it though grudgingly  , I think it is just all the OT at work that make is more annoying than it should be. Today was one of those days, I didn't even have time to work with CS3.
It does seem to be related to file size and/or number of windows. It usually works when I just start it up but if I create a 12 x 12 at 300 dpi resolution, it just seems to big to handle, even if there are no photos in it yet and then the click and drag seems to stop working for everything. If I'm just working with one of two photos it seems OK. I had to do major upgrades to my PC to run elements without crashes even though I was WELL over the system recommendations. I just wish I knew what I could tweak. I'm really hoping I don't have to upgrade to add more hardware again. I'm not sure I can with the current system.
