View Full Version : Notes Tool
While I'm at it, here's another question. When I was using Elements I downloaded a free program called FileNote and basically I would make all my notes for my page in that which would include credits, any special tutorials, etc... Is that what the Notes tool is for in Photoshop? I tried it out but it leaves that little icon on the page which is a little distracting when I'm working on a spread?
Also, someone told me about the Photoshop Elements users website. I'm assuming there's one for Photoshop but when I googled it I came up with the homepage for Photoshop Professionals something or other.
Thanks!!

Hi Amy
The "official" website for Photoshop users is the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) which can be found here:
http://www.photoshopuser.com/
Annual membership is $99 and for that you get access to so much information and help that I can't begin to list it all. You also get 9 or 10 issues of their magazine each month which is a much more substantial publication that the Elemenus User magazine. There are lots of free tutorials for members and forums which are friendly and informative. There is also Photoshop TV which you can watch on-screen or as a podcast (non-members can watch this also) but you get free access to all previous TV shows as well. Each weekly show lasts about half an hour and has tutorials and information about what is happening in the Photoshop world.
NAPP members cover the whole spectrum from absolute newbie to top professional but don't let that put you off. I use CS3 just as a hobby - for fun - and I am always made to feel very welcome on the NAPP site.
I can thoroughly recommend joining NAPP - it's the one subscription I definitely will be renewing this year.
Another site well worth looking at - and it's free - is Corey Barker's Planet Photoshop which you can find here:
http://www.planetphotoshop.com/
And if that's not enough there is so much on the web in the way of free tutorials, brushes, actions etc for Photoshop that you will never be kept unoccupied :)
Keep persevering with Photoshop. Yes, it is a steep learning curve but it will level out in due course. Elements is a great program but CS2 and CS3 can do so much more. I'm sure that if you stick at it you will never look back. And remember, Elements is a simplified (although very powerful) version of Photoshop but it will never be equal to its big brother.
Hope this helps

Thanks, David, for the useful links. Now I can cause my husband to complain more about my computer usage!

If you don't want to use Photoshops note tool, you can use FILE, FILE INFO and add stuff there also.
I belong to Elements User and NAPP. David it right in that the NAPP publication is significantly more substantial. I just joined NAPP recently. I've been a member of the Elements User site for over a year and renewed for another year even though I probably won't use elements much anymore. The elements site is more geared for the digital crafter whether it be cards, improving photos and/or making scrapbooks. Some of the NAPP tutorial assume a bit more knowledge and are often greared toward commercial applications but both are very worth belonging to if you can afford it. If you join both, you can get a NAPP discount on Elements user if you join NAPP first. I got $10 off when I renewed my Elements User membership after joining NAPP. NAPP membership also entitles you to other discounts on products, hotels etc. If you ever order from B&H photo, you get free shipping if your a NAPP member so there are a few extra perks beside the great educational material.

If you don't want to see the Notes icon on your page:
1. On the menu, click: View>Extras
This will temporarily hide ALL guides, icons, etc.

I'm not an Elements user, but was wondering about Elements User myself. It's too bad they don't gear that torward Elements and Photoshop for those of us with those interests.
I had forgotten about turning the notes off by the View>Extra's. Some time ago, somewhere I don't remember where I read a good detailed thread about File Info vs Notes, a pro/con type of thing - but I just can't remember. Been too long.
