Hey everybody, I ordered my album through Shutterfly, I am so pleased with it ,I'm thinking of ordering the heritage album I'm doing (when it's done)from them too. The color is very good and it's a thin book not a thick creative memories album. It will be a wonderful gift for our Family. The size I orderd is 8x8, the pages I scrapped are 7x7 for some reason about a 1/4 of an inch is missing around, but thats ok I'll know for next time. Anyone else order a book? Are you happy with it? I had to show it off I was so excited!

Just received my Shutterfly 8X8 book in mail today for my Sentimental Journeys album. Turn around time was fantastic. Just downloaded it last Thursday after dinner. The book turned out really pretty and I was relieved to find I didn't make any major goofs on the layouts.
Only mistake was I made a title for the spine and typed it horizontally on a document and then moved it to the spine. I made it read bottom to top (that's left to right isn't it?) and when I got book back I realized it should have been top to bottom instead-like all the books on our bookshelf. Not exactly an earthshaking thing, but something to consider next time. The book is for my husband and he doesn't mind. I'm really pleased with the quality of the book and the colors and papers. We have company coming in this week to visit. They happen to be the couple we went on that Alaska cruise with that was featured in some of the pages. Am just going to the Shutterfly book on the coffee table (without any comments) and watch for their expressions when they open it and find first us, then themselves, in a bound book. Will be so much fun!
Thank you so much to all at Scrappers Guide, Shutterfly, Michelle Shefveland for her Simply Moments CD, and all of you for the wonderful help and opportunity to learn how to do an album and for the 50% off coupon for the printing at Shutterfly. I had so much fun!

I am really pleased with it!

This was my first really as a book ordered scrappingpagecollection and it is big size, 30,5 cmX 30,5 cm(12x12). This is really a size I love.

I have ordered the really spring project pagecollection made by Viovio and it was not a book, just a soft version "booklet" and the quality was not same as here by Shutterfly.

Of cource there is a huge price difference too.

I made in this book 38 pages and I think this kind of book really need a
"big" project or idea to be done. Mine project was the first and half year of life of our adopted daughter in China and the trip when we got her year 2004.
There are photos about over 100 pcs, bigger and smaller, so not much room for really scrapping things.
I was so surprised the outlook of the book that I just went totally speechless for a moment.

So, I really can say, test it! If I had not got the discount coupon I had not ordered a book, but now I really make the next one from there, when I have
a big idea again to do a project. And I have it already in my head, but I have decided to keep a vacation from making pages.

Bye,

Naturally in my every project there has to be one mistake.

In this Shutterfly it was the coverpage.

I made it from three different pictures and I even tried it in their
psd-file for cover it should be ok, but in the preview it looked like it is now with mistake, I did not believe it, it could be in the real book and it was!

From up and right were cut of a bit that they were not totally on the page.

Does not actually matter to me, but it naturally would have been perfect without that mistake..:)

I am so pleased to have found this thread about the books y'all have had printed at Shutterfly. So glad you are happy. I recently ran into a concern with one of the items they printed, and re printed...
However, I am in the process of creating an 8x8, using their psd page format, and it will be sent off to them, as soon as completed.
I am using some of the Simply Moments CD, other kits I've purchased, and even a bit of my own doing.

I've never made a book yet, but in the last week have been playing around with My Publisher. Is there a big difference in the way Shutterfly and My Publisher work? The way the photos are laid into the My Publisher Templates is pretty easy. After reading this post, I just quickly looked at Shutterfly and it looked more compliated- Zip, files, diagrams, etc. I get the impression after one views ones completed book and uploads it to My Publisher, what you see is what you get.

If anyone has used both of these, would appreciate hearing the pros/cons of each one of them. Kind of worried when I read the misprint thing and font not turning out like planned, so just wondering. I've got a book about all set up with My Publisher right now, but just want to know if I'm missing out on something better with Shutter Fly. Thank you.

Hi everyone,

My book arrived from Shutterfly today and I'm so happy with the result.

I had ordered an 8 x 8 photobook and it took only 8 days to arrive here in Australia from when I placed the order.

My pages were originally 12 x 12 and I had left a space around the edges of 1/2". The printed pages appeared exactly as they did on screen with a white border around the edges. The only difficulty I had was the Covers and Spine. It took a few attempts (even with the specifications provided) to get the pages in the correct positions. But it worked eventually.

This is the first time I have had one of my scrapbooks professionally printed and I would highly recommend Shutterfly. The quality of my book is excellent.

Thanks again to Linda for her generous offer and training; to Michelle for the Simply Moments CD; to Priss, Robyn, Laura, Penny and Nancy for their guidance and to the lovely members of Scrapper's Guide for their encouraging comments.

And to think when this Album in a Month was suggested, my first reaction was: "I can't do that!". Now I have a wonderful book of my dogs which my family and I will treasure for many years to come.

Nikki :)

I still haven't sent mine off, but reading all the positive comments I think I had better do it, just one or two pages still need a bit of work...will miss the deadline to use the coupon but if the quality is as good as everyone says, it will be worth paying for...now must get those extra pages finished.

Hi Chris ...

Everyone seems to be saying how good the books so it sounds like they are well worth it.

Do let us see the extra pages when you have done them :)

I somehow remember I said, I would keep a vacation from making pages, but...

(and then she explains...)

We were in Spain on vacation in June(that's because I had so hurry to get the previous project ready to Shutterfly after I got the discount coupon) and I thought it would be a nice way to put the pictures from the vacation to be watched and I made the book really simple: just the
photos to the page, a bit bevels and shadow and blue background and that's it!

It took anyhow about 6 hours to make the book.

It is still on production and will be coming to me in the end of this month.

21 pages only and this time I had to try different size: 8x8.

Exciting to see the result again.

And from the last mistake I made:
I understood now, what went wrong with the cover: the pds-file, where I put the picture did put the picture under the lines and there were "empty" area around it.
The photo has to be resized from the corner to fit to the page and now it is ok in the prewiev. Last time I did not understand that and I thought the first
puttting to the psd-file is enough.

"Oppia ikä kaikki" say people here.

Translation something like: you learn your whole age.

Bye,

K

You may be surprised to be getting a "reply" to this, but I'm a newbie who is tracking down threads on this subject. Having gone to the Viovio site as well as Shutterfly, I still don't understand what I have to do to get a finished book that is 8.5 x 11", and bleeds to the edges. Should I make my digital page set-up a little larger (say, 9 x 11.5) and bleed my set-up to the edges, making sure nothing important is near the edges? Or can I just use the normal 8.5 x 11" digi-page, assuming the publisher will print it on larger paper then trim it down?

When I read the Viovio site, my head starts spinning and my eyes glaze over. Everyone is talking a language that seems from another planet. My question seems simple, but I can't find anyone official to answer me.

Thanks,
Sharron

Sharron,

I just recently did my book using Viovio. I did a 10 x 10 book. Wags374 helped me out a lot, but I will give it my best shot here.

I originially did my pages as 12 x 12 making sure that I kept my pictures/embellishments at least 1/2 inch off the edge to a full 1 inch. I then sved them as 12 x 12 jpegs. I also gave them numbers in the front of the file name (01, 02, 03, etc). When your in Viovio you can sort them really quick that way prior to putting them in their program for making the book. For your cover page call it gallery favorite and there is a box to check (in the book program) that will make it your cover. Do not upload your back cover (if making a soft bound book) there is an option when you make your covers to upload it. I used Viovio's upload system FTP to upload all my pictures at once. That was very quick, btw. Once they were uploaded to Viovio they have a little book making program that you use. In there there is an option for full bleed check that. It will also cropped your layouts to the correct size. Preview everything and you can always go back and reload a layout that is incorrect. If you run out of space contact their customer service to open it up a bit. They will gladly do that. I had to with 75 layouts uploaded I was over my quota. Hope this helps.

I think you'll be fine with 8.5 x 11. Also my book at viovio was excellent just like SHutterflies, but not even half the cost.

Oh thanks so much Marcie. I printed out your "tutorial" and will study it along with the 20-some pages I printed out from Shutterfly! So nice of you to take this much time for me.

Not a problem, Sharron. I asked a bunch of questions too when I did my first book.

Hey, just as a note to prevent you from making a mistake (like I did):

I printed a 12 x 12 book through Memory Mixer a couple of yrs. ago. While I was working on my 23 pp. front & back as well as the cover, I got off on my pagination so that my two-page layouts got off. I was so disappointed to realize that it was my mistake instead of the printers. I thought I was right, considering that I kept checking, but when you make the same mistake over and over... Anyway, I could prevent that by naming files 2a, 2b or even print out a contact sheet and cut out or do whatever is necessary to make sure that doesn't happen again. Though the book is nice, it does make a difference to the "feel" of the book when pages are so "disconnected".

Hope this is helpful to someone.

I was thrilled with my first book printed by Shutterfly. The only thing I would have done differently was to not put anything on the pages within half an inch of the spine. Although I used their templates with the guides, you still need to keep well away from the centre of the book. Having never done paper scrapbooking, this was the first time I've seen my 12 x 12 pages printed out and it's a shock how big they are. You can certainly fit more on the page than you think when you're designing on a small screen. Here (http://www.scrappersguide.com/forums/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=13532&cat=500)is the finished product. They also gave me a free calendar which I had just two weeks to complete and so I scrapped 13 pages for that including the front cover. My mother takes it everywhere for show and tell. What fun!

I just had my Yearbook Album printed as a book by Viovio. It looks great. I searched many online companies, and by far it was the one with the best prices. They are going to have 12x12 books soon, so my 2008 Yearbook Album will be that size. Thanks to Wags for all her help with instructions for preparing my pages for printing as a book.

I just received my Shutterfly book to-day and I LOVE it. I created an album for my DD and DSIL's fifth wedding anniversary in 8.5 by 11 format. The pages show all the detail in the papers and the photos very well. The pages are a nice weight. Also the turn around time was very fast!!! I also got a 20% discount off as they had a special on so I am overall very, very pleased!!! Now I am starting a book for my DS who turns 30 years old this year.
