In PSE 5
The photo frames pre-made. If I put it into my layout, the frame is chosen, and the middle is grey and you double click on it to insert a photo.
Is there a way I can make the middle clear, like a png file without trying to cut the middle out?
My cut doesn't come out even...

No, the frames are meant for putting picture into them. If you want to make a frame you'll have to "do it by hand" so to speak. Is there one in particular that you like?

Mostly in involves taking a background paper you like, and then using the shape tools and selection tools to "cut out" your center area. Use your rectangular marquee tool to make a selection, and then choose Image->Crop. Next, again use your rectangular marquee tool to draw your inner area. While you are drawing you can hit your space bar position the inner rectangle. When you are satisfied with the placement of your inner rectangle, let go of the mouse, and then press the backspace key. Play with the bevels in the arts and effects pallet.

Do you have Linda's training CD's? She has some neat framing ideas on those, too.

Either way would work. If you save as a PSD you save all your layers, but it is bigger. If you save as a png you will lose your layers, but have a smaller file. Trade-offs...

Thank you Trish. My husband added a whole new drive, so maybe I will save the whole file and see how it works.
