I have LOTS of papers, kits, stuff all organized in My Folders on my hard drive. I really don't like using the Organizer to put any of my pictures or all my stuff. It really seems to slow things down on my computer.

Is there a way to turn "off" the organizer or delete things out of it that went in there automatically?

Anna,

You can't totally disable the Organizer, but you can not use it. First, when you "save" things from the editor, make sure you UNCHECK the "save in organizer" checkbox.

The second thing is to make sure the photo downloader is turned off. Open the Organizer and go to Edit->Preferences and under Camera and Card Reader, UNCHECK the "Auto Launch Adobe Photo Downloader on Device Connect." Then, right click on the downloader Icon (sorry, I forget what it looks like) and choose "Exit."

Now, you can remove the Catalog file. It will be in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Catalogs

Also, in the same area, you will find a Catalog Folders directory. In there will be another directory of your catalog name, and in that folder will be the thumb nail cache. Remove that file as well.

Now, if you are using the Editor and accidentally forget to uncheck the "Save in Organizer" box, you can just go and delete the catalog and thumbnail cache files whenever you want.

You will have to Show Hidden Folders in Windows Explorer to get to those files.

Thank you for the instructions on how to shut it off and not use it.
I'm going to clean up things in there this weekend.

Actually, there are some instructions for disabling Organizer. You can find the thread on the photoshopelementsuser.com forum. It's a very old post. But I've tried it and it works.

Hi ...

You can indeed totally disable the Organiser (and I suspect that the post over there is one of mine :) ) but if you do then you just won't be able to use any of the features that are in the Organiser side of Elements ... :)
