I am a newbie...and have not seen this question come up, so thought I would ask (since I seem to be the one having issues with it...) LOL

First off, I absolutely LOVE Linda's teaching, and it's making a world of difference in my ability to sit down and just DO things!! THANK YOU!!

I have some templates to use that have words/writing in the photo areas of the template. As I am going through the directions on working with templates (and the free template they gave...YAY!!), it is working great...but on the template that has "wordage" on it, when I "Paste Into" the area, the "wordage" remains, with my photo in the back. In these instances, there is also an issue with the photos not being the right size (or rather, the template is not the right size, as the photos work great on the templates from here!!).

The "no brainer" approach is just not to use these other templates...which may just happen, but I'd like to know how to correct this issue none the less.

Thanks for your help!

Be blessed,
marina

Marina,

You don't have to 'paste into'. You could just paste your picture onto the template, and move, crop, and resize into position. Most likely those words are a different color and not being selected when you use the magic wand.

I'm going by the template instructions that came out this week (?) and they say at #9 "Go back to your template page and choose Edit>Paste Into. (Don't choose Edit>Paste by mistake!) Your paper or photo will be pasted into the selected space."

This works fine in my PSE5 with the Scrapper's Guide templates, but the "other" templates from "other" places that have printing ON the template, the words are not being removed/covered.

I'll try to do it the way you are suggesting...but not sure if my issue is making sense??

I appreciate your assistance...(and don't mean to be a pain...)

No, your issue makes sense.

If you are using the magic want to select the area you are pasting your photo into, if the words are a different color, they won't be selected. Paste Into paste's into an active selection - the words aren't selected, so your picture is going to go around/under the words. To show what I mean, make a selection, then on the layer's pallet click on the create new layer button (the little square at the top). Turn off all the other layers and you will see that your selection is going around the words. You could "paste into" the selection on this blank layer, and still have the same problem with the "words" being on top.

You could either switch to the selection brush, and add the words to the selection, or instead of doing Paste->Into, just do a Paste (ctrl-v) and just use the Move tool to move the photo into position. Then, if you need to crop the photo smaller, use the rectangle marquee tool to select the area you want to keep, do a Select->Inverse and then Backspace/Delete. Then, once you have everything in position, just delete the background layer and put in your background paper.

The templates are just a guideline - you don't have to follow them exactly.

ps- I understood what was happening, just not how to make it stop, or to correct it to keep it from happening...Your answer helped a lot!

Thanks, Trish, for the quick refresher on templates. I was just going to look up my instructions when you came through and saved me time!:D

Another thing you can try that will make it quite easy, I think, is in a single-layer template, use your CLONE tool, to cover up the text. THEN you can use the magic wand to select the area, and ctrl+j to make it go to a new layer until you have built all the layers you want to our of a single-layer template.

Hope this helps (It's the way I do it, and the way I take out an unwanted embellishment so you CAN paste-into) Both ways work, just do what's easiest for you.

Thanks so much ladies....you've made it so much easier to do! I'm getting a better grasp of it all, although I haven't had enough time to master it all!!

What a blessing you are!!

I select the color of the area surrounding the text - then make a marque selection around the text and fill with the color. Text area is no longer a different color, so it isn't a problem anymore. :)

Some of the templates have words that are in the exact space where a photo should go. If these words are just instructions, then you can simply delete them from the area by selecting the layer to make it active & using the marquee to surround the words. Then, just delete them. You can keep them on the original but delete them everytime you use the template. Of course, if the words are a desired part of the template, this wouldn't be the desired option.
