View Full Version : Restoring a backup

Recently my EHD failed because of a power spike. All of my pictures were stored on the EHD but I felt safe because I had done regular backups using the organizer in PSE 3. After the crash, I upgraded to PSE 5 and am now trying to restore my backup. The most recent DVD reads just fine and the files are restored, but when I insert the second disk my computer freezes and I see the "blue screen of death" warning me there has been a fatal error. I have contacted Adobe but have not received a reply. Have I lost all my files because I backed up using PSE? Please tell me it's not true!

Hi ...
... and welcome to Scrappers Guide :)
Being a Mac user I can't help on this one but I am sure that one of the Windows users will be along soon and will be able to help you :)

I don't use PSE's back-up, so I can't help you here. Have you posted on the Adobe Support Forums? Can you look at the DVD/CD with other software (not during a restore)?

Why didn't I think of that? I inserted the DVD and looked at the contents using Windows explorer and all the pictures are there! It will take a little while to get them all back in the proper folders and into the organizer but at least I haven't lost years of photos. Is it better to back up my EHD onto DVD's using Window's Explorer?
PS - Thanks again for the great tip. I'll be visiting the forum more often. Maybe I can help someone too :)

Okay, so you can see the files - the DVD's not bad then. It seems like the restore function is not working. I would double check with the Adobe Support forums. The backup shouldn't blue screen.
