Hello -

Does anyone know what it means when in the Organizer, in the folder view and next to the folder there is an "eye icon"?

I am forever trying to organize my photos and removed the duplication (I thousands of photos and my hard drive is nearly full) and I think I just undid four days worth of organizing! One of the results is now my pic folder has this eye icon.

Thanks kindly,

Stacy

P.S. I posted this on another site and didn't receive a response and was hoping someone here might.

Is it a watched folder? Look in File->Watch Folders and see if it isn't listed on this dialog.

You are terrific - thanks so much. I've read you answer many peoples Organizer questions. I'm sure I will be back as I hope to some day clean up the mess I have. I supposedly have 15,000+ photos which is not accurate, but I have so many duplicates and they seem to be all over.

Thanks again!

Glad you're sorted out. The duplicates is a tough problem. Be very careful when working with them. Good luck.

The eye icon means you are only looking at the photos with this tag. Click on the icon to take away and you will be looking at all your photos.:o

Ok, I am back to trying to figure out my duplicate photos and organizer mess. I still have the eye icon, I could never figure it out. The last post on this topic was below. Can you/someone please explain this further as I don't quite understand it?

Thanks!

I finally got it. You are correct that the eye icon shows a watched folder. Now, is there any advantage or disadvantage to have a folder "watched"?

Thanks,

Stacy

Actually, some people have had problems when they've "watched" a folder. I think it is a somewhat useless feature. If you are working in the Organizer, then you will know when you've added pictures. Or, if you copy the photos from your card to the hard drive using Windows Explorer instead of using the downloader, you will know where your photos are and can do a Get From Files and Folders.

Thanks, Stacy

Some people have said that the organizer takes longer to open because it is searching through the watched folders for new additions. I always thought it was an annoyance to have the dialogue popping up asking me if I wanted to add something.

I agree that it takes a while to open organizer if you have a lot of active folders that the organizer is 'watching'. However, I do use this option b/c I download freebies into a different directory and want to unzip them and clean up the folders before adding them to my permanent directory. Once I've moved things to their permanent home the organizer will alert me that I've added them to a watched folder to remind me to add my tags.
