This is my first view of this site and it looks good. The new Adobe forum is incomprehensible and I have a major problem.

My 'Captions' have disappeared from my Collections in Organizer. Only from Collections, the remainder of my 10,000 pictures are okay. Unfortunately, the Collections are the important ones, as my website, and to a large extent my career, depend on these.

I have no idea why this has occured, (they may have disappeared during a recent 'back-up attempt) but is there any way of retrieving them? I did try 'Restore' for the collection but did not work.

Thank you,

Ian Julian

Ian,

I have not heard of this happening. Try resetting preferences for the Organizer. I can't remember if you hold the shift key while starting or the ctrl key while starting. One will ask you if you want to Recover the catalog (which is a good thing to do, too), the other should reset the preferences.

The Organizer preference file is here:

C:\documents and settings\<your login>\Applicaton Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Organizer\psa.prf

Rename it to psa.old.

Some people recommend just renaming the Organizer folder to Organizer.old.

Thank you for that. I tried holding the ctrl key, and it recovered, but as feared, the captions, about 1600 in all, are still missing.

Could you explain the Organizer Preference file, and what exactly I should do. It is a pity that with Orgaizer, you cannot reset to an earlier date. I am now sure that the loss was not due to a back-up.

The preference file maintains your settings (under Edit->Preferences). The editor has one too. They occasionally get corrupted. The only thing to do is remove the old one, and then when you restart, the Organizer will rebuild it. They are named .prf and usually under Documents and Settings. You have to show hidden files in Windows Explorer to see them.

Then you have to go back to Edit->Preferences and reset your settings.
