Hi - just stumbled across this forum looking for help with adding layer styles to 6.0. I've successfully added in brushes, optikverve (the reason I upgraded! had to have Vista compatible to run that plugin), and my layer styles.

I'm now trying to add in some atomic cupcake effects and not having any luck at all, even rebuilding the database file.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for that? thanks so much!

I'm a newbie poster as well on this site, but I did find the answer to this on another site. PSE 6.0 does NOT support added layer styles. If you want to use styles not included in 6.0, you'll need to do that in PSE 5.0.

Actually, you can add layer styles. It's a different path. They will only show up in Show All. They go here:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\<en_US or your locale>\Photo Creations\layer styles

Someone suggested after you add them, add them to the "Favorites" tab.

I'm still having prblems with my Photoshop Elements 4 - bevels --- I keep getting the message "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"??? I can't used the bevels at all. I haven't changed a thing on my computer and I'm using Windows XP --- I called for tech help from Adobe and they told me they don't support version 4 any longer only the new version 6?? Can you give me some advise on whether I should upgrade or purchase the complete new version of 6? But if I buy a complete new version what happens with my organizer from 4??? I'm a bit frustrated at the moment and trying to make a smart decision, can you enlighten me in any way??? Thanks a bunch.

Darry,

Try resetting preferences: as you start editor, press and hold the ctrl-alt-shift keys. I dialog should appear asking you if you want to delete the settings files - say Okay/Yes. If you don't get the dialog, try again until you do. Then, see if your bevels will work.

If you "upgrade" you are buying a complete new version. The "upgrade" option is so you can get the $20 rebate. In PSE 6.0, there is a dialog that will convert your catalog from 4.0 to 6.0.

Hi Darry ...

Could be that your bevels file has become corrupt ... if so then a re-install will sort it out. Or if you send me a private message with your email address in it I will send you a copy of the bevels file so that you can simply replace it :)

Hi,

My hubby recently had to reload our computer because of issues we were having. Now i'm trying to restore my photoshop elements 6 with my downloaded actions. I understand the directions posted by trish but am wondering about the applications folder in local c drive. that folder is no longer showing up. Is this a hidden folder and if so how to make it not hidden. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,
Cheryl

You have to go into Windows Explorer, then chose "Tools" and then "Options" (I think). In there somewhere is the option to show hidden files and folders.

On Vista, you may have to reboot to get it to show up.
