In April there was a thread talking about organizing in Bridge. I just found the thread after I had set up all my "keywords" in Bridge. Then I tried to place a keyword in one of my embellishments ending with .png.
Bridge would not let me. I received a message saying the file cannot store XMP metadata. I called Adobe help and the final answer was that I would have to change my .png elements to .jpg. She said something about XMP not able to use transparent feature on a .png and if I used .jpg I might lose the transparency on an embellishment.
I am not sure what all of this means but I really would like to tag my embellishments in Bridge.
Does anyone have a suggestion? I can change .png files to .jpg but I don't want to lose important design features. Has anyone else encountered this problem with Bridge. Do I have to tag .png files in iPhoto?
Would appreciate help with this. Thanks!
Hi Donna, I have Bridge and am able to put png as a keyword on my png files in Bridge with no problem. I am using CS3 and Bridge 2.1.0.1. Maybe it is the version of Bridge you are using. I would not change them to jpg. Have you tried doing it with another embellishment that is a png? Maybe Trish can shed some light on this problem for you.

Hi Dot - I am using the Bridge version that was bundled with PSE 4 for Macintosh. It is version 1.0.4.6 and I did try again and received the same message. Wish mine worked like yours.
Donna, I still have that version of Bridge so I tried it and what I found was you can only have two keywords on a file. I can put png as a keyword on a png file as long as there aren't already two keywords on it. Hope this will help you.

Donna,
.png files and raw files do not accept EXIF/IPTC data. If you are trying to put a keyword into a .png file, then it won't work. It is the format of the data. I don't know if Bridge uses a database or not - but it sounds like it is not (at least your version). Organizer does use a database, so you can tag .png files. Of course, you're on a Mac, so that doesn't help you.

Thanks for all your messages. Just to bring you up to date. I called Adobe tech support again. I asked for an upgrade on Bridge. There is none for PSE 4 for Mac but was sent to a salesperson and he told me to download the trial version of PSCS3 and see if that Bridge works. I did and it does. Now I only have to decide if I want to wait to see if the new Mac version of PSE (coming out soon) gives me the updated version of Bridge or buy the PSCS3 after my 30 day trial is up. So, thanks again for your help.

I have been able to tag all of my .png files with multiple (more than two) keywords using Bridge CS3. The only problem I ran in to was when I was tagging a bunch at a time and didn't give the app enough time to properly tag each element before switching to another directory. Sometimes I would get the message saying that the .PNG files didn't support XMP or something like that, but if I went back and tagged them again and gave them enough time to finish processing, all would work.

I have PSCS3 and sometimes i cannont get bridge to save keywords to a .png file. to resolve this open the .png file in PSCS3 and resave using the same name then go back into bridge and then add the keywords
