Can someone explain if it is possible and how to open a psp file in Photoshop Elements 5.0? As you can probably tell, I am a newbie at this...

Thanks!

I'm not sure. I would go to File->Open, and then look in the drop down box at the bottom that says "File Type" and see if it is listed. I think it can be done, but I'm not 100% sure.

Hi Mclane, and Welcome to Scrapper's Guide.

No, it is not possible to open a psp file in Photoshop, BUT there is a way in PSP to SAVE the file as a PSD. When you do--then it will open in Photoshop.

As you move to and between both of these powerful programs, you'll find some enormous differences, and some things that are exactly the same. Enjoy learning Photoshop, and let us know if you can make PSP save a file as a psd. (the save-as file type option) I know it can be done, because I've done it--but I don't have the computer that has PSP on it with me. :(

There are several scrappers here at Scrappers Guide who know both programs very well, so don't hesitate to post your questions.
