Hi there!

I have been using Photoshop Element 4.0 for 2 years and never had any problems with it. A few weeks ago, I stated cleaning up all my pictures and embellishments, moving them around to organize them, etc. The Organizer started crashing and being not responsive. Now it's at the point where I can barely do anything and it crashes. Especially if I do a right click on a picture, it crashes immediately.

This is what I have done so far:
I have done File, Catalog, Recover many times
I have ran my anti virus
I have ran a disk cleanup on my hard disk
I have done a Check for volume errors on my hard disk

What else should I do?

I would like to know if it would be worth it to de-install and re-install Photoshop? If I do that, will I lose my tags and collections?
If I upgrade to Element 5.0 or 6.0, would that fix my problem? Again, would I lose my tags and collections.

Thank you so much for your help!!

Miniski,

First, I would defrag.

Second, an uninistall/reinstall will not lose your tags or photos. The tags are stored in a catalog file. The catalog just points to your pictures.

An upgrade would not lose your tags. You will have to convert your catalog if you upgrade.

One other thought, sometimes the thumbnail cache gets corrupted. The file is usually named tn.x.cache (where x is a number) or thumbs.x.cache. It is usually in a hidden folder under C:\documents and settings\.

My other thing is - did you use the Organizer to move and clean things up, or did you use Windows Explorer. If you used Explorer, then Organizer doesn't know where things are. You need to do a Reconnect Missing Files.
