Chan,

I don't have PSE 6.0 yet, but can you tell us whether you are printing from the organizer or editor?

Also, what steps are you trying to do to make your background?

Hi Chan, and Welcome to Scrapper's Guide. Try this: quickly check your "orientation" to your printer to be sure it isn't chopping your layout up--(that your original dimensions are properly set when you opened your new document) and that it is printing in the same dimensions you set.

On the "stroke frame" question double check that you are working "INSIDE" when you go to edit>stroke to make the frame, and that you have ctrl+clicked the THUMBNAIL to get your selection to stroke. Are you trying to do this another way (there are several ways to get this effect) ? Let us help if we can.

I print from the editor and it looks like the right size. But when it prints it is much smaller. If I print from the organizer it is fine. However, that does not give me the chance to change the size. I check the printer and it is set to letter and the correct size.
With the stroke selection I do it the same way as you decribed. I have never had a problem with 4.0. I am really upset.

Chan,

What printer do you have? Is it networked or plugged directly into your computer?

I have HP 3200. When I printed in 4.0 it was fine. With the 6.0 it will print fine from the organizer but I want to print from the editor so that I can change the size.

I'm just guessing here - but perhaps there is a "borderless" option that has been turned off/on inside the Editor print dialog? I have an Epson, and it can print borderless, but if you don't check the box, it assumes you have margins and then fits it inside those margins, even if you're printing on bigger paper. It sounds like you are getting a double 1/2 inch margin.

For the stroke (I have the PSE 6.0 trial). I opened an image, did a ctrl-A to get the marching ants, did a new layer, and then Edit-Stroke, chose White, 50 pixels, and "Inside" and I have a stroke around my whole picture.

Thanks so much ladies. I got the printer to work. Now I am working on the layers and being able to change them. Also the stroke does not want to work if the picture is on a background. I will continue to try. Thanks again.

If my picture was the background, I had to do a ctrl-A to select the picture, and then my edit->stroke did fine. If it doesn't, your preferences may be corrupted. I'm not sure, yet, where the pref file is. I'll go a-huntin' :)

Edit: in XP the Editor preferences file is here:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your windows login>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Editor\Adobe Photoshop Elements Prefs.psp

Rename it to .old and then restart elements and see if things aren't happier.

You probably need to Show Hidden files. In Windows Explorer choose Tools->Folder Options. Then, under the "View" tab in the lower list, look under Files and Folders->Hidden Files and Folders and choose the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option.

Everytime I go to print I have to fight with this program. I have it all set and get ready to print and it crops it. After about four times it will work.

Chan,

You can post a bug report over at Adobe. Also, since you have just got this and are having problems, Adobe *usually* gives you 1 support installation call free - if it's been this way from day 1, then I would argue it's an installation issue.

I have been on the phone for two days with Adobe. You either wait for hours or they have no answers. The tech said they can't guarantee that your printer will work. My printer is only 13 months old. I am very disappointed with Adobe. I am filling out a report.
