Hello...

I just recently upgraded to Elements 6.0 and I am about to just chuck it and suck up the $88 bucks I spent on it!! :eek:

I have been searching and searching on how to get my styles to show up in catergories, without the Show All feature - and get that I have to change the file to an XML. My problem is I really don't have a clue on how to do it. I am willing to do the work, but was hoping someone could give me clear step by step on how to do that.

I have all my styles and everything moved into the appropriate folders (I have VISTA, so I went to the right folder finally!) but I really want them in their own catergories. For example, I have Glitter Brights from ScrapGirls and want them as their own, not have to search through all of my styles to find them!

If you have an answer and are willing to give me some help I would really really really appreciate it!!! Thanks so much in advance to those who can help. :D

It is really easy. I don't know the path for vista. Make sure you "Show Hidden Files" and do a Search for any .xml files. For Windows XP it is:

C:\documents and settings\All Users\Application DAta\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\en_US\layer styles

so it is probably simlar.

Now, open one of the .xml files in notepad. Here's the Wow Chrome one:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<PSEContent xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/PSEContent/1.0/">
<global>
<type value="style" />

<typecategory id="CatGlass" value="Wow Chrome" localize="true" />
</global>
</PSEContent>

Where it says Wow Chrome, change that to the exact name of the .asl file. For example, if it was "Metal Chrome" then put Metal Chrome there. Then, do a Save As and save it as Metal Chrome.xml - it is VERY important that the names match the .asl file exactly.

Do this for each .asl file.

Okay...

I have two folders with different files.

One folder (C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\en_US\Photo Creations\layer styles) has the ASL files - which shows all of my styles loaded.

AND the other folder has:
(C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\en_US\Photo Creations Metadata\layer styles) has the XML files - this only shows the styles that came with 6.0.

I went to open my file Glitter Brights (ASL file type) from the folder to change the wording in notepad, but it wont open it like what you showed. Am I doing something terriably wrong or am I just an idiot? :o

When I go to open the 6.0 loaded styles from the XML folder, it looks like what you showed.

Am I making any sense?

Glad you're off and running. You'll just have to do it for every layer style you add. Actions are similar.

What language do you have? What folders/files are in the 6.0 directory you have there? Mine clearly has Locale.
