I'm trying out trial version of PSE 6. I'm still trying to get down extractions...I see there's a new extraction tool...since I've always used the lasso tool I'm still trying to figure this new one out...I understand about the dots on the foreground that you want to extract and say the blue for background...my problem is when Icome to the add or subtract...it gets totally messed up at this point...I really like the concept of it!! Help please!!!
Hi Terri,
The magic selection brush, which you're talking about is fine, but if you really want to get a refined selection, you have to try the Quick Selection Tool (which is right next door in the toolbar).
For details on the tool and how to use it, look at Linda's video in last Monday's Tip of the Week from the Digital Scrapper Email. If you didn't get one, just go to the very bottom of the Scrapper's Guide Home Page and click on the link that says 'Weekly E-zine'. Then go to the bottom of the email and click on the link for the video!
Hope this helps!

Terri,
I agree with Jan - you want the quick selection tool. And after you get your selection, do a ctrl-j to copy it to it's own layer, and then use the "eye-ball" for the layer's pallet to turn off the other layer(s) to see how it deal. It is awesome. I have tried out several different pictures and it works great.

I'll go back and try that again! I did try it...I did use Linda's tut. just found that around 3 little girls with blonde stray hairs was lots of fun...it snapped to part of it but since colors varied so much I still had some issues...I know it works fast and great for a subject that's one or two colors...in my photo they have different clothing and etc. on. it just didn't work all the way around...thought maybe the magic selection would work better....so I'm trying everything....please see my other thread... Thanks!

Terri,
I have found that sometimes one selection method isn't enough. I might start out with the magnetic lasso, then switch to the selection brush to get more precise.
The other thing I do a lot is use a Mask (I use the one from Grant's tools, which will work in PSE 6.0). A mask allows you to paint away or paint back in what you want.
Strands of hair are tricky...
