I have five pictures I'm trying to use and can't get them into the photo bin. They say "Missing files" When I let it search for missing files I cannot re-connect files. It is grayed out. These photos have a red mark on them. I can't re-name. Using Ver. 5. with XP. How can I use these photos?

Can you find them on your harddrive using Windows Explorer? It sounds like they have been moved outside of the Organizer.

They are there alright. They were tagged and I can call them up by tag. I just can't get them into photo bin in Editor. I bought Linda's "Scrappers Guide to Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0" thinking there would be something in there about missing files and photos with different marks on them, but I could not find anything pertaining to missing files. Also, when missing files went through the process, their was no way I could "re-connect" That area was grayed out. I tried another single picture not related to the five I was trying to use, andthat process worked fine.
This entire problem is about "missing files" and some kind of in "edit" process marked on photos. How do I get rid of these things?

Have you done a File->Catalog->Recover?

Can you just use File->Open in the Editor and get to them that way? Do they have a red band across them in the Organizer that says "Edit in progress?" If they do, they are already in the Editor.

You have moved the images from the location when you originally tagged them. This is one little quirk of the organizer it will need to reconnect to find them which is the jagged little red box. You can go to File>Reconnect and let it run for awhile and see if it will reconnect on its own, maybe do this before you go to bed and let it run all night long is the best way. If you are going to move your images around in your computer you need to do it through the Organizer or it will get confused. I hope that explains it!
The Organizer is a great tool as long as you follow all of it's rules.

Patty's right! I found that out the HARD way..in fact I don't use the Organizer and that's one of the reasons! Let us know how you're doing!
I had the same problem and did not resolve it. I have not loaded any of my pictures in the organizer but use it for all my digital papers,elements, (separating ribbons, buttons, rivets, tags, etc.) and categorize them. I still have a copy of everything in another folder on an external hard drive. So I had to search the designer in order to open the paper I was looking for. What a pain. I do not know why some of my elements will not open on any given occassion. I get the same message as papatsy, missing file and a broken red icon on the image I am trying to open in the organizer. I sure would like to find an anwer to this problem.

Generally speaking, that means that the Organizer thinks that the file has moved. There are two things to try: a Reconnect Missing Files,and a File->Catalog->Recover. If those things don't fix it, it could be a corrupt thumbnail cache. Find the tn.#.cache file or the thumbnails.#.cache (where # is a number like 4 or 5), and rename the file with a .old on the end, and then open the Organizer to force it to rebuild the thumbnail cache.

I too wasn't using the organizer for this reason..I would really like to use it more than I do...I found it was much easier to store it in "My Documents" in folders...I now have 6 and when I open the file I don't even recognize anything in organizer... Dumb me I guess! When I open up my files it lists everything else? What am I doing wrong???

I have been trying to get a hold of Patty Debowski, and when I try to click on her website, it doesn't come up her website. It is something completely different. I have her book, and I was interested in getting some of templates. Please advise if you know where she might be. Thanks
