problem with the clone tool

I am able to use the clone tool to eliminate the ketcup bottle in the restaurant photo in Scrapper's Guide volume 2 for photoshop elements 4. But, I am unable to use the clone tool in my own photo to eliminate a shadow on part of a baby's face under her bonnet.
When I try to use the clone tool it clones part of the baby's face and not her skin color. Your help is most appreciated! Elainet

Are you alt-clicking the part you want to copy? You often have to re-click a lot to get a good clone.

Try resetting the clone tool. On the far left of the options bar you will see an image of the clone tool. Click on it, and then choose "Reset Tool."
