I got Photoshop Elements 6 for Christmas, and I know a little bit about Photoshop, but I really have no idea where to start now. I guess I shouldn't say I have *no* idea because I did one layout where I followed a tutorial I found on the internet, but I'm looking for some basics that will walk me through all the steps starting at the beginning. Any advice? Thanks!! I'm very excited.

Mindy,
Hopefully, Linda's new PSE 6.0 training CD will be out shortly. You could even get the 4.0 or 5.0 CD and they would be very close. A few of the tools in 6.0 are different, and 6.0 works a little differently in some cases. It would be what I would recommend the most.

I'm glad to hear there are others stumbling around in the dark. I have the CD for elements 5, but I have elements 6. I don't know if that's my problem or if I just need someone to give some very basic advice. I don't know how to get started with the scrapbooking. I can't seem to make the layers hold still for me. I start with the background - the first layer - then I add a photo and try to put it on the background and the photo becomes the background. How do you get the layers to stay put and pile up? Hi IrishLady,
Since you seem to be completely new to Elements, you might consider getting Linda's Vol. 1 - Digital Scrapbook Basics training CD. It's still the industry standard for learning Elements and it contains the greatest amount of basic training for Elements.
Most of the basics are the same throughout whatever version of Elements you're using. It's only the Organizer and a few of the tools that change or are improved from version to version. This CD is great for beginners and will teach you how to use the tools, how to navigate the workspace and give you a wonderful collection of shortcuts that will save you time and effort.
So, if you're just starting out, consider it. Then, once you're confident in your basic skills, you can get the CD for Elements 6.0 later on and you'll be already up to speed.

toews,
It sounds as though you are struggling a little. Go to the menu Window->Images and then choose Cascade. Next, choose the Move tool (press v on your keyboard). Click and drag the embellishment you want to your background paper. That should get you going.

I am a software junkie I guess!
I've used PSE 3,4,5, and now 6.0 but I have a lot of trouble. I also have PS CS and CS3. I love scrapping but am really interested in digital. I also have all of Linda's CD's.
I want to be more productive.
I've been watching Linda on Scrapbooking Memories ever since she began and I recorded every episode.
I have many Scrapped Family Albums and I've scanned in 10,000+ photos.
I just don't know where to begin-i'm probably not even doing this right. HELP
PS I also bought a Macbook Pro and trying to familiaraze myself with a MAC.

Jean, welcome to the wild world of digiscrapping.
Well, we are equal in some ways....I'm 72 years young and have had every issue of Elements plus learned some of PhotoShop at work. Otherwise, I've been the repository of all the family photos...accumulating about 30,000 when you count the version sets and videos and scrapbook pages. Mostly I used PrintShop to scrapbook and then PowerPoint before I found Elements and the photoshopelementsuser.com website. There I found Linda Sattgast and Wendy Williams. Then Linda started this site and I found several other websites that encourage you to scrapbook and post your results. That was the most encouraging thing for me to try out templates and challenges and post them for others to see. The people are so friendly and helpful.
Good luck with the Mac. When I started computer usage, it was on the Apple // then the ///. After that business demanded the IBM compatibles.
Post any questions you have. You will get a prompt answer, I'm sure.

Hi Jean ...
Sounds like you love Scrapbooking :) ...
sometime when you have that many photos scanned in well it can be daunting but the best way to start really is just to concentrate on one page at a time. I look forward to seeing some of the pages you make.
.. and any help you need with the Mac then just ask, I'm a Mac user too :)

I have been scrapbooking since 2000, and I think I am ready for the plung into digital. But, the program I own is Microsoft Digital Image. It's a few years old. Which program should I purchase? Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Elements?

Photoshop Elements is easier to learn. But, if money is no object, go for Photoshop. Elements usually runs $99 (US), Photoshop $650-$750 brand new.

Hi Robinette ...
I agree with Trish ... :)
Why donlt you download a demo version of each one and see what you think ..
Wendy
Wow, Jean! Sounds like you're well equipped and ready to roll! You'll have a great time, just relax and master one thing at a time. When you do, everything else will follow along and fall into place!

Hi: I've been using Elements 5 and loving it. I'm still on the bottom of the learning curve but am determined to do more digital scrapbooking.
My question is: I have 5 and am happy, but my sister got me 6 for Christmas. I haven't opened it. Should I just stick with 5 that I'm familiar with, or does 6 offer more "good" stuff that I should have? Also, will a lot of the tutorials start being offered in 6 and 5 will fall by the wayside?
Thanks for any advice.
Judy
