Hi
Iam currently using PSE5 and was thinking of buying version 6. Iam a little worried as to how this will affect what i have already set up. I have installed lots of new layer styles, brushes shapes etc. If i load version 6 do i have to take off version 5 first?? How does it all work, have only just got used to using 5 but want to keep up to date with the new tools etc coming in version 6. Bit confused, should i buy or just stick with what i have?

Lisa,
You would have to copy over layer styles and such to the right places in PSE 6.0. (For brushes, though, I recommend just using the Preset manager to load them, instead of putting them in the brushes folder.) You do NOT have to uninstall 5.0 when you install 6.0. However, you can NOT run both at the same time. Also, if you convert your Organizer catalog to PSE 6.0, PSE 5.0 cannot read it.
I recommend downloading the Trial version.

I'm with Trish on this one... check out the trial version before you make a final decision. It's always the best thing to do when a new version comes out -- that way you can test drive it and see if it's going to be worth it to you to upgrade.

I like version 6...even the dark interface. Definitely do the trial to see if you can see the small details. I upgraded because I wanted the bundle with the new version of Premiere. But it turns out that they both use the catalog and I found that Premiere 'doesn't work well' with large catalogs; i.e. 10,000 images.:( My catalog has about 30,000 images. Therefore, I kept version 5 with the large catalog and am importing into version 6 only the images I want to use in Premiere.
There are a few things that you need to be aware of if you are going to convert the catalog to the new version; see this thread at Adobe:

There are quite a few bugs, as indicated by this thread at Adobe Forums:

Take a look at all this and make an informed decision. You will be glad you did.

Any one know when Linda's 6.0 tutorial is going to be out? I skipped from 4.0 to 6.0, and WOW is it different. I'm a little intimidated. OK - a lot intimidated. Especially when I see post's like these that list all the gliches. I'm REALLY looking forward to Linda's help!

Trish-
I haven't had a problem with this and I've converted several catalogs(maybe they fixed it?). Anything that's changed in the PSE 6 Organizer after it's been converted doesn't show up in the PSE 5 Catalog and vice versa. I can still use either version with it's catalog. I don't recommend using both versions with catalogs because you'll just get confused (or I would). My suggesion is that if you're going to convert to PSE 6 use that catalog now and stick with PSE 6.
Lisa,
Also, if you convert your Organizer catalog to PSE 6.0, PSE 5.0 cannot read it.
I recommend downloading the Trial version.

Yeah, PSE 6.0 makes a new catalog, based on your 5.0 catalog. It leaves the old 5.0 catalog there, so you can read it with 5.0, but any changes made in 6.0 are not applied to the 5.0 catalog.
