Hi, I was wondering if any of you use both photoshop elements and photoshop? I have photoshop 5 limited edition that came with our old computer and thought about loading it up to try it out a little. I love my elements program and do most of my things in that but have been using a trial version of CS2 and like it but it's way out of our budget so thought I would see what this limited edition version had on it, however my DH thinks that it will cause problems having both programs loaded. Has anyone else experienced any problems using both elements and photoshop? Just curious. Scrappinmomma2

Scrappinmomma2,
I have CS2 installed along with Elements 3 & 4. Everything works fine. When I installed E4, it was recomended not to run E3 at the same time.

I also have CS2 and elements 4 installed as I use Elements for the organizer and CS2 for everything else. They work fine together.

You definitely won't have any problems but I have Elements 3 & 4 and CS2 all on my computer and find I'm happiest in Elements 3.

I have thought about purchasing CS2, but in reality, at my current skill level it would probably not be necessary and that money could well be put to better use in this hobby. I work with Element 3 and I would certainly consider Elements 5, but I'd like to wait and see what the 'grass roots' consumer has to say about it first.

Hi Scrappinmomma,

I have Elements 3 and 4 as well as PSCS2 installed on my PC and have never had any problems. I run elements and photoshop at the same time and still have never had any problems. One thing you will want to be sure and do, when you load the newer program, make sure you select which program you want to open your files. This way when you double click on your files to open them they are opening in your most familiar and used program. You can still open files in the other program by using the program itself. Hope that made sense?... :)

I, too, have CS2 and Elements 3 & 4 installed. I guess it's time to take 3 off. I tend to keep the old programs on in case someone has a question and is using that version - I can go and check it out with the correct program.

However, there's no conflict/problem and I sometimes have CS2 and Elements both open at the same time with no problem, either.

I'm going to reinstall Elements 1 and see if the .psd thumbnails will really show up in Windows Explorer as someone suggeted they would. It's sitting right here on my desk - just need to find some time.:)

HI, I have photoshop 7.0, just upgraded to PSCS2 (and love it) and I also have elements 4 on the computer, too. I use photoshop more, but I wanted to learn both and thanks to Linda, I can practice on either one. I don't have any conflicts of the two programs on the computer.

As everyone has already said, there is no problem having Photoshop and Elements both loaded at the same time. Photoshop 5LE is a pretty old version though. I don't think I would bother loading it.

I don't have CS2 yet on my home computer but do have CS and Elements 4 - I use both all the time - have things I like in both

To open the program that you didn't choose - open your list of documents and click on "open with" and scroll to the opposite one

My sister, cousin and friends use Elements and were always asking me questions - so I decided to buy Elements and since I had already bought all of Linda's CD's and had been getting Linda's tut I had all the instructions I needed. Last xmas I bought the beginning Elements CD for my self and bought one to send to my sister. Since then we have been sharing lots of ideas and tossing questions back and forth. Great hobby!

Thanks Linda for sharing all of your experience with:rolleyes: us.

I have PSE-4, and PSCS2 both installed on my computer, and haven’t had any problems. I have PSE-5 on pre-order, and it was supposed to ship on Sept. 25, but I haven’t seen it yet, could be that I live in Nowhere Small Town, Arizona. Hope it works alright too.
