I have created several slideshows which are located in the organizer. I want to keep the slideshows intact, but reduce the number of photos in the browser. How can i do this without losing photos in the slideshows ?

I don't think you can. The slideshows just point to the originals, they are not duplicates. I think if you remove the image from the Organizer, it removes it from all creations, slideshows, collections, etc.

Thanks Trish
Does this mean there is no way to save created slideshows for use in future projects unless their photos remain open in the organizer, or do I just not know how to do it ?
I have premier elements 4 also. Can I retain these slideshows there and then remove the photos supporting them in the organizer or will this ruin the projects created in elements 4. Obviously I'm somewhat lost on how to save things and stil have space to work in the organizer. Any help is appreciated

I haven't played with the slideshow thing yet. I would think, using Premier, you could burn your slideshow to CD/DVD and then delete it from your catalog, then if you want more copies, just copy the CD/DVD. Premier uses the same catalog as PSE, so if you delete them from one place, you're deleting it from the other.

Why are you worried about space to work in the organizer?

Since you have Premiere 4, I assume you have Elements 6. There are smart albums you can set up; i.e., last 6 months; all photos with "x" name in the title; all photos taken by "x" camera. You can also search by many variables; i.e., name, media type, etc., to find what you want easily.

I have approx. 30,000 images in my organizer and have no trouble working there. In version 6, the catalog supports 100,000 images. I tag everything with albums, names, places, events and select the ones I want by the tag. That narrows it down to a few, a hundred, or so on.

I do get carried away with taking photos of one flower or one hummingbird and don't like to scroll through 20 of the same thing. I eventually delete the ones I don't want to keep, but until then I stack them. I could have 50 in one stack so that I only see one image as I scroll. They are easy to unstack as well.

Hope this helps...if not, ask more questions.

Thanks. I'll give albums a try this weekend again, although when i dragged some photos to an album i created and then went back to see if these photos were now missing from one of the slideshows in the organizer i believe they were missing which is the problem i have been having. Maybe i did something wrong in the process. I guess if one wants to save slideshows any photos used in the slideshow must be open in the organizer.....is this correct ? I am new at this and really appreaciate your input.

When you 'put a photo in an album' you are not removing it from the catalog. You are merely putting a tag on that thumbnail. It should not have removed that image from any creation.

The joy of tagging for albums is that when you select the images in that album you can rearrange the order of the photos by dragging and dropping. (This does not work in smart albums.) Then you can select all of them to make a creation. They will be in the order you want them to appear.

Thanks again. I'll give it a try tonight.
