Is there a way to create custom shape files from .png or .jpg files and then add them to the cookie cutter tool selections? I've scanned and saved several shapes I'd like to use in the cookie cutter tool. I use PSE 6.0. Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi Becky ...

Sadly Elements doesn't have the ability to create or Save Custom Shapes .. you need the full version of Photoshop o be able to do that.

Maybe someone you know who had photoshop could do it for you ??

Thanks Wendy. I was afraid that might be the case. I'll just have to figure a way to work around it.

There is a method that might work, though.

Open your shape - it must be a png or a transparent layer in psd

Open something - like a scrapbook background paper or a photo

Place that bg paper/photo above the shape and - while on the paper/photo layer - hit control g - which will group your background paper with your shape.

You will now have a shape colored like your background paper/photo. Not as easy as cutting a shape out - but not much more complicated.

To get the exact placement of your shape on your background paper/photo - just move the paper/photo around with the move tool.

When the placement is perfect, merge down.

I've had computer problems, then out of town company, and then trip to visit grandkids, so I didn't get back to see your reply cats4jan. Thanks - it's a great idea - I'll give it a try.
