I started organizing pictures and scrapbook materials a few years ago, but let the ball drop. I recently purchased Elements 6 with a new determination to organize the thousands of photos I have. I've made a lot of progress on the photos, but I've decided that I want to separate my scrapping stuff to a new catalog. Can I move the entire Scrapbooking category, along with its sub categories and tags to a new catalog and if so, how?

I don't think you can. I think you *might* be able to export your categories/tags (check the help) and then import them into another catalog. Then, you will want to select your scrapbooking images and do a "Write Tags to Files". However, this will NOT write tags to .png files, as .png files don't support tagging (tiff, jpeg, psd, do). Then, you can import the images into your scrapbooking catalog. But, you'll have to re-tag the .png files.

What I did to separate my catalogs is this:
1. Make two copies of your complete catalog, giving each one a new name (like "Photos" for one and "Scrapbooking Elements" for the other.
2. Now, go into your "Photos" catalog and delete all the unwanted catagories. (You may have to delete the thumbnails, too. I can't remember if I had to do that or not. But make sure you do not chose to delete from your hard drive.)
3. Next, go into your "Scrapbooking Elements" catalog, and delete all the unwanted catagories (& possibly the thumbnails).
4. Test out both catalogs to make sure everything is working properly, then you can delete the original complete catalog (I made a backup just in case anything went wrong.
5. You now have separate catalogs without having to retag everything!

Thank you. But how do I copy the complete catalog?

Here's one way:
1. Open the Organizer
2. File>Catalog>Open...(you will see your catalog)
3. Right click on the catalog and choose Copy
4. Click on a blank spot to deselect your catalog
5. Press Ctrl V to paste another copy of your catalog.
6. Right click on your new catalog and choose Rename
7. Give your new catalog any name you wish.
8. You now have a new catalog in which you can delete catagories you don't wish to have in that catalog. You can also delete categories you don't want in your original catalog.
9. Or better yet, keep you original catalog, and make a third catalog. That way your original catalog is in tact until you don't need it any more.
Good luck!
