Hi,
I am new to scrapbooking and just starting to collect kits, papers etc. I want to add a second (actually third catalog) to my organizer for just scrapbooking. I have thousands of photos in my main catalog already.

I plan to add the scrapbooking material by creating a catalog and having organizer add the materials from folders to the new scrapbooking catalog. I would then beable set up albums and tags just for that catalog when it was the active catalog. (I believe?)

But my question is can I set just the separate scrapbooking catalog to watch certain scrapbooking folders for new material, or will that add the material to my main photo catalog in addition? Would I have to just add to the scrapbooking catalog through organizer manually when I add new material?

Betty,

Welcome to Scrapper's Guide. I don't know if you can set up separate watched folders for different catalogs or not. (I don't use the organizer myself.) I know in some versions using the "watched folders" feature caused bugs. My guess is that Watched Folders are tied to the whole program, not to individual catalogs. This would be a great question to post over at adobe's user support forums.

However, I think the watched folder feature is kind of, well, lame. You know when you add stuff to your hard drive. You have to tag and organize anyway, even if the Organizer automagically pulls in the files for you. After you download, and unzip and put your kits in the right place, you just open the organizer, open the right catalog, and then do File->Get Photos from Files and Folders and off you go. But, that's just my opinion. I know lots of people on the adobe support forums really rely on the watched folders option. But, like I said, it has been known to cause problems in the past.

Hi, Betty! I had several catalogs in PSE Organizer. Yes, you can select specific folders to be watched. I believe you just right click on the folder and choose "Watched Folder" or something to that effect. I don't have organizer opened right now, but I did pick & choose which folders I wanted watched.

I am using PSE 6, I'm still new at this, even though I've been trying to learn digital scrapbooking for about 6 months:) I have noticed that whatever catalogs you have opened up last, is the one the watched folders items will be installed in. I only have My Pictures watched and so I try to keep my last opened catalog, where I want them to go. I'm probably not expaining this right, maybe you can understand. babs

Yes, the Organizer remembers which catalog you had opened last. So if you want to check the other folder, you have to open it. I believe you can only have one catalog opened at a time, but not sure.
