View Full Version : Reconnect error message

I'm trying to reconnect my files, and before it finishes I get a window with a list of disconnected files that can't be reconnected. When I try to just delete them from the catalog, I get an error message:
Could not update; currently locked by user 'admin' on machine "SHARRONPC'."
Can someone tell me how to "unlock" them so I can get rid of them? Unfortunately, it seems I must get rid of them in order to continue the reconnect, because there are still a ton of disconnected files.
Thanks,
Shar

Make sure that you don't have the files open in something else, first. Then, make sure that even Windows Explorer is not open in the directory that the files are in. Otherwise, I'm not sure why it thinks they're locked.
PSE 5 or 6?

PSE 5. Neither of the two scenarios you mentioned are applicable. :(
The roughest part of this for me is that we are leaving town in the morning and will be gone nearly 2 weeks. I just won't have time to pursue this since it's obviously not going to be a quick fix.
BTW, the PHOTO portion of my catalog is working just fine. It is the Paper and Elements portion (where all my "goodies" are) that is disconnected.
I'm still clueless.

Are they on an external drive or something. I gave up on the organizer a long time ago... :(

No. They are on my hard drive. Up until now I have LOVED the organizer. I have the tagging system from Patty Debowski and it has been very useful, efficient, and easy to use. I can't bear the thought of giving that up. I want this to work. So When I get home from my trip I will contact Adobe first, and if necessary, Carbonite (to reload from my backup with them). All very depressing.

Hmmm. Usually if something is "disconnected" it means it got moved outside of the Organizer. Are you *sure* they are in the right place?

Hi Trish. I'm finally back from my travels for a couple of months. And to answer your nearly 2-week-old question, YES! My stuff *was* in the right place. I decided to just try RESTORING from my hard drive to the original location. Figured I had nothing to lose. Well, by cracky! It worked. So far (after several random tests) my organizer seems to be functioning again. My husband could tell by the big WAHOOOOO he heard all the way at the other end of the house, what had happened.
Now I have a bazillion pictures from our circuit (Seattle to Chinook, Montana, to Sun River, Oregon, then home again) to upload, label, sort, tag. It was really fun to take sky pictures in Big Sky Country. And barns..... We were on smaller highways for much of the trips, and my DSH (dear SWEET husband) stopped EVERY time I asked him to so I could take pictures for my barn collection. Got to the point where HE spotted some before I did and pulled over!
I've missed being here, and am excited to read postings, download my June Premier goodies, and settle into some quality scrapping time.

ooops. Well, I'm not as happy as I thought I would be. There were no disconnected items, but most of my stuff was missing from the organizer. Fortunately, it is still on my computer, but it looks like I may have to re-tag everything. :(
Guess I spoke too soon. But as I said, I had nothing to lose. I'm no worse off now than I was, I'm just not as far ahead as I thought. What's done is done.

I didn't know for over 1 year that there is a backup system with the organizer! I found it when I got the instructions on how to get my stuff onto my new computer. It must be backed up onto a CD, DVD or external drive. (Or rather 1000 CD's, a dozen DVD's, or a normal external drive!!!) Now that I know about this feature I will be backing it up monthly. I can't imagine retagging the 4800+ items I currently have in my organizer!
Hope your computer comes back from it's vacation and you find things working again!:o

Well thanks, but I am having to retag everything. What a pain. I'm not as bad off as many of you who have been collecting a lot longer than I have would be. Still no clue as to what caused the problem, but now I know to back up my organizer on my EHD. For some reason Carbonite didn't cover this contingency, that I could find...maybe I just didn't look in the right place. So...slowly, a little at a time, I'm rebuilding. At least all my stuff was still on my hard drive. I'm finding that I'm a little more picky about what goes in my organizer this time around. If it's not something I at least LIKE, I'm not bothering with it. I've been learning that just because something is available doesn't mean I have to have it. Especially since I am a self-proclaimed minimalist...very seldom use elements.
