Trying to make eyelet lace

I was following the video on making eyelet lace from may 2007. Wel, here is my problem. I have my new page open and it is set to white and I go the shape tool ad click on the ornament 3 shape. When I go to drag it onto my page the background page goes transparent and the shape turns completely white. The background is suppose to stay white and the shape turn black. I have my colors for my page set right. Can someon please help. Thanks so much.:eek:

Hi Berly...

Just check something ... I think you may have selected the Cookie Cutter Tool instead of the Shape tool
