I keep getting kicked out of PSE6 and I don't know why. I have Windows XP and I believe it started after I downloaded Service Pack 3. Is anyone else having this problem or possibly know what might be causing it?

Michele,

The first thing to try when PSE start acting wierd is resetting preferences. Press and hold ctrl-alt-shift as you start the editor. When you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the settings file, you do.

Yikes.... Service Pack 3.... I've heard all kinds of stuff about it. I'm not downloading it! At least not until they correct all the problems!

I have SP 3 for WinXP on both my computers, and didn't have any problems using PSE 5 or 6 today.

I've had SP 3 for several weeks and all is fine with me also...but I run CS3.

Check to make sure when you downloaded SP3 it didn't use all your space on the hard drive and you don't have enough left to run PSE6. This happened to me once after a windows update.

Thank goodness someone other than me has had this same problem. I tried having a computer guy come over and check it out. Nothing wrong with my computer. I could never get a straight answer from anyone as to why this happens and the Adobe website is not useful for any type of corrective activity. I finally abandoned PSE6 altogether and went back to PSE5. Unless I hear that they have a fix and PSE7 won't automatically kick me out, I'm staying with PSE5. That's unfortunate, as I'd love to be able to use some of the features, but constantly getting kicked out is more than me frustration level can handle. What's a digital scrapbooker to do?

I reset my presets per Trish's instructions, but I got kicked out again this morning. It's weird. I get kicked out of PSE6 and Windows Explorer both, and usually it's when I am viewing documents in a particular folder that I have a large number of scrapbook pages stored in. My next step will be to remove and reload the program and see if that works. But I still don't know what to do with the Explorer window.

How many documents do you have in that folder? Have you defragmented your hard drive lately?

I had about 20 PSD files in that folder. I defragmented like you suggested. I needed to do that anyway. But I still got kicked out of Explorer from that folder. So I made two new folders, divided the pages into each of the folders and deleted the original folder and I haven't gotten kicked out of Explorer since! I don't know if the folder was corrupt (if that can even happen), but hopefully, by accident, the problem is fixed. Thanks for your suggestions. I'll have to work with PSE6 now for awhile to see if that problem is fixed.
