Hi
I have just noticed a big problem, when I open my brushes I cant seem to use the slider bar at the side, or scroll up and down using the arrows? This is really annoying as I cant even get to the default brushes. Every time I click on the scroll bar or up/down arrows the whole box closes?
Any ideas?

Sounds like you need to reset preferences.

Close the editor. Press and hold (and keep holding) ctrl-alt-shift as you start the editor. Keep holding until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

Do let us know if that solves the problem :)

Hi ladies
I did this and yes it does put me back to the top of the list of brushes so that I can use my default brushes. But, I still cant scroll down or move the up and down arrows. As soon as I click on them the box closes. In pse5 I used to be able to click on one of the brushes and it turned blue and then I was able to scroll down with my scroll wheel on my mouse. This doesn't seem to work either!
Beginning to wish I'd stayed with pse5!! Someone also told me that If I had bought the upgrade version rather than the full product, I wouldn't have had to transfer all my files myself! never mind. I will persevere with your help.
Anymore ideas what I can do???
many thanks

Hmmm. This sounds like the scrolling bug with text fonts has hit your brush picker. The scroll wheel doesn't seem to work like it did in PSE 5/6 for PSE 7.

Try this: Grab a brush (just pressing your left mouse button, but don't release it) and then pull down with the mouse to "scroll". Can you do that or does it close with just the press of the button? (Usually you have to "release" the mouse button for a "click" to take effect.

Are you on XP or Vista?

Hi Trish
yes I can do that, it's a bit hit and miss as to which brush i land on, but at least I can drag up to the defaults. I also noticed that I can move up and down by using the arrow keys on my keyboard. So do I just do it like this in future? or do I need to sort it out?
Have checked my text box and the little slide bar at the side does work on this.
When I used PSE5 I used to be able to click on one of the brushes/fonts and it turned blue and then I could scroll up and down with my mouse scroll wheel. Will I be able to do this again?
Iam on Vista

Well, sometimes, after hitting this bug in the font drop down list, and doing the grab-n-drag method, they shut down PSE, and then reboot their machine, and suddenly the scroll bars work again.

I have Vista on both my laptop and desktop, and have hit the font list bug on my desktop, but not my laptop. I haven't been scrapping much lately, so I haven't played with brushes since I've upgraded to Vista. You are the first person I've heard of hitting this similar problem with the brush picker.

I think somehow PSE 7 has disabled using the scroll wheels in the drop-down lists on Vista (I'm not sure on XP as I don't have an XP machine anymore). I seem to be able to scroll other drop down lists in other programs with my scroll wheel, so clearly, Adobe has messed with this in their code...

It seems like I had to go in Preferences and set it to let me scroll. Or maybe it was to use my scroll wheel to zoom in and out. I can't really remember but you may want to check there to see if there's supposed to be something checked that isn't.

Well, at least I know I'm not the only one with the same problem. I just got a new computer for Christmas which has Vista, so I had to upgrade to PSE7 from 3. I have the same problem that I cannot use the scroll bar and have to scroll through the brushes using the up/down arrow keys on the keyboard. I also cannot use the scroll wheel to cycle through blend modes. Wonder if it is a combo glitch of Vista and something in PSE7.

I ended up having that problem the other day too and remembered reading this post so it didn't slow me down too much. I have a new laptop with Vista and had upgraded to PSE 7 too.

I have XP and had to reload my OS because my laptop kept crashing. I've just loaded PSE 7.0 for the 1st time and find that when I have the zoom tool picked, I can no longer use my scroll mouse to increase the size of the image.

[UPDATE] Well, I went back to my general preferences and found a checkbox for "Zoom with scroll wheel". Problem solved.

I did the same thing when I first loaded mine...took me FOREVER to figure it out!:)
