I have reloaded PSE5 on my new laptop (Vista 64-bit) and I'm pretty sure I have opened both PSE and the Organizer. I say pretty sure because I have been swapping back and forth between laptops trying to get my new one set up.

Today when I try to start up the Organizer from within PSE, it won't open (not reponding message). I have logged out, rebooted, and tried several times. I have 2 catalogs that I use (Pictures and Digi) and right now the one it is trying to open is Pictures.

I double-checked and both of my catalogs are under the adobe-->Photoshop Elements 5.0 --> shared_assets --> database --> odbc --> Catalogs directory.

I just discovered if I try to save something in PSE and I say to <Include in Catalog>, it gets hung up too (not responding message).

If nothing else, maybe I can move them somewhere and see if the Organizer will open the default catalog that comes with the program. But, I'm not sure what that one is named.

Any suggestions on how to get this going, would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Try pressing (and holding) shift as you start the Organizer and see if it can repair the catalog.

Thanks for your quick reply, Trish. I got a little farther......Organizer prompted me to pick a catalog when I held down the shift key. I tried opening both of my catalogs and in both cases it does not open and the organizer goes to not responding.

What I did when transferring my data to my new computer, I copied the catalogs via Windows Explorer like I did with all of my other files (old laptop to a portable HD to my new laptop). I did not do a restore. I made sure my paths to my files are the same but I will double-check to see if I have the same directory path for PSE5 on my old laptop as I do on my new. But, I didn't think that would matter as long as it is in the correct location for catalogs (and they are).

Any other ideas?? Thanks!

Did you copy the thumbnail cache files too? It could be that Organizer is busy rebuilding the thumbnail cache, and may take a long while to finish.

Good thinking, Trish but I didn't see anything else in the directory. I think what I'll do is do a backup and restore on the new laptop. Luckily, I still have everything setup on my old laptop, it's just a function of time! Thank you for your ideas.
