New catalog

I would like to create a new '2009' catalog in pse7 which I know how to do, but I don't know how to get all the tags I have created in my '2008' catalog into the new one.

Is this possible or do I have to re-create all my tags and sub-tags?

Hmm, good question. I've poked around, and I don't see an Export/Import of tags. Bummer. Here is a way:

Find your 2008 catalog. In the Organizer go to Help->System Info and you will see the path to the catalog. Write it down, or copy it with ctrl-C.

You will probably have to enable Hidden Files and Folders to get to the catalog file. Mine was like this (on Vista): C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\Test catalog

In that "Catalogs" folder, make a 2009 folder, and COPY (very important: COPY) all the stuff from the 2008 folder to the 2009 folder, and rename things accordingly. (You'll see how things are named in the 2008 catalog folder, so you'll want to make sure they are similar. You may not have to rename anything). Then, go into PSE Organizer, and try to open the 2009 folder catalog. Then, select everything (ctrl-A) and choose "Delete from Catalog" but DO NOT DELETE FROM THE HARD DRIVE. So, that will remove the pictures from the 2009 catalog, but keep your tags.

NOTE: This could be dangerous. Please, please, please, please MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR 2008 CATALOG AND PICTURES before performing this operation.

Your instructions were very easy to follow and it made quick work of getting my new 2009 catalog set up. It would definitely have taken me a lot longer to re-do all my tags.

Glad you got it. I played with it for a second last night on a "Test" catalog, so it looked pretty easy, but I didn't want you to accidentally delete anything.
