Besides Linda's CD's, what book would you recommend for PSE7? I am going to be away from my computer for a while, so I would like to READ up on this program, get myself familiar...
Your help is greatly appreciated.

thanx much

I think Barbara Brundage's "The Missing Manual for Photoshop Elements ..." is probably one of the best books to get going with it.

Thanx Trish, that was one of the ones I was looking at....but wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my money on a book that wasn't too helpful or complicated....

Hi Monika

Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski are releasing a book called "The Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 Book for Digital Photographers" here in the UK in March, which means it should be available in the USA before then.

I have several of their books and can only say that both of these guys are really top performers when it comes to teaching.

Hope this helps.

When I first purchased PSE 5 a couple of years ago, I did buy books by both Klosowski and Kelby. Their books were both how to do a certain task, very helpful, but were task oriented. (Like how to remove glare from glasses or repair old photos - very helpful indeed!) But the first book I purchased was The Missing Manual - it explained every tool and how to you can imagine, excellent for the beginner just getting their feet wet. I referred to it often. I recently gave both PSE5 and the book to my grandson.

In fact, I like The Missing Manual series so much, I just purchased Photoshop CS4, The Missing Manual for my newly acquired CS4 :)

It would depend how "green" you are and what you are wanting to learn. The Missing Manual would surely be something you could read while away from you PC. Enjoy your journey with PSE, you will love it!

I've got to go with the Missing Manual for Elements 7.0 as well! Barbara Brundage covers ALL the bases, and you can keep the book close to your computer for handy reference.

All of her Missing Manual books are terriffic.

Although I also like and use The Missing Manual, the book I go to the most, that sits at my left hand, and that I take to bed with me, Is Patty Debowski's book, Digital & Hybrid Scrapbooking & Card-Making with Photoshop Elements. I think it is only available on her web site. I like it for several reasons, but mostly because of the friendly style in which it is written. Although it is aimed at scrappers, it is a basic course in PSE as well. This is the book I have marked up and tagged.

I would have to agree with Shar on Patty's book. It is really easy to read and understand. It is for PSE5 but still you could learn a lot about digital scrapbooking with it. I have the Missing Manual in both PSE5 and 7 as well and use it often. I just got Adobe PhotoShop Elements Classroom in a book" I have yet to use many of the new features in PSE7 so hopefully this one will lead me step by step in a classroom, hands on type setting. It would be great if they would write a book on "What's New in PSE7" only and leave out all the other stuff that is covered in the previous versions.

I love Patty's book too! and she is good at responding to emails when you need something clarified.

Yes, that's true!

Barbara's book is very good - I have a copy myself :) Scott's and Mark's books contain lots of important principles in their tasks and it's good to see them take a short project and show you what you can do.

I liken Barbara's book to music - she shows you what each note looks like and what it does. Scott's and Mark's book, however, teach you how to sing those notes :)
