Watch Folder Question

Hi all,
I am just getting started in digital scrapbooking and am having a ball. The housework can wait, apparently. I have a question about the "Watch Folders" option in PSE6. When I click on it, I get a message that the Watch Folder Service is Unavailable. I can't find any help in the Help file. Can anyone tell me how to make it available again?

Hmm. What is your operating system? XP or Vista, 32 bit or 64 bit? Did you install with your anitivirus software disabled? I've seen problems reported with watched folders on Vista 64 - it doesn't work.

The Watched Folder option, to me, is pretty useless, if you know where you add your photos and kits to the hard drive.

(And just as a gentle reminder, to all new PSE organizer users, the organizer only POINTS to your photos/kits. Do NOT remove them from your hard drive after you have imported them into the Organizer. And, rule number two: once you have imported the photos/kits into the Organizer, ONLY use the Organizer to move them around, if you need to.)

I have Windows XP- and my anti-virus is running and was running when I installed.
I haven't used the Watch Folder option, obviously, as I haven't needed it until now. I wanted to be able to just find the new items in my folders to import into PSE; my photos automatically display in the organizer. It's just beginning to get crowded with all the papers, etc. in the folders for scrapbooking and I didn't want to miss loading anything.

If your antivirus was running when you installed. then:

1. Disable antivirus.
2. Uninstall (via the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs) PSE.
3. Reboot the computer.
4. Disable antivirus software. (Unplug from the internet if you are concerned.)
5. Install PSE again.

See if Watched Folders now works.

I don't use that feature, but I categorize all of my downloads by month so it's easy to find the newest downloads.
