does anyone know if it is possible to unlock a layer?

You can double click a background layer (in the layers pallet) and that will change it to a "regular layer".

I tried to, bud it didn't work. I had merged all the layers, that just maybe my problem.
I use elements 6.
After I had printed out the page, I realized I need to fix one of the layers. I may have to start over...:(
I tried one of the techniques from Scott Kelby and Matt Klockowski's "the photoshop elements 6 book" to add photos to the funky frame, downloaded from this months kits - It didn't turn out very well.
I have been hoping that Linda would show us how to add pictures to the frames included in the kits but haven't see one yet. - maybe I missed it.

Once you flatten or merged and saved, you cannot go back. Now, if you haven't closed the layout, you could "undo" until you had everything unmerged.
