I give up! I have tried to find out how to do this one thing and can't find it. I think I am just frustrated. Here's my problem: I took this really neet photo of the ocean water as our ferry was traveling along. I think it would make a great marbled paper. I think I need to create an overlay (I think that's what you call it) with so I can make different colored versions. I have taken a few other photos that would add great texture to elements and paper. Do I need to do the same thing with them? Am I on the right track? Where will I find the video how to's? Please help me!!!!

Welcome, I am not sure how to make a marbled paper, but I do know that you can use other pictures to make interesting textures by changing the blending mode and adjusting the opacity of that layer. I am sure someone more experienced will come along and help out. You might want to add what program you are using and version example (Photoshop cs4 or elements 7) also you should include if you are on a Mac or a PC. Good luck

Welcome to Scrapper's Guide.

We'll need to know several things in order to help you - what software you are using, Mac/PC, and what steps you've tried so far.

Find a picture of marble texture (several good texture sites with free stuff out there), lay it on top of your photo. For the marble picture, try the blend mode of overlay or softlight. Maybe place a hue/sat layer on top of everything to change the colors, if you're looking to change the color of the whole thing.

I'm sorry, I have PSE7 and use a PC. I've collected quite a few SGuide kits and videos. I've been trying to find a video or tutorial on taking a photo and adding it to a background solid color and ending up with a new background that could become paper. My photo is of the white wash on water as the bow of the boat cuts thru the water. I reminds me of the process in crafts where you put small dots of oil based paint on water and then set paper on top. The result is marbled paper. So am I looking for instructions on brushes from a photo?, creating textures from a photo? I just don't know where to begin. This would be my first attemp at changing a photo to a photoshop tool. I hope this clears up some of the questions.

Over in the layers pallet, at the top, you have Blend Modes (I think it may be just modes).

Open your background paper. Then do a File->Place to bring in your photo. Resize your photo (use the move tool and grab a corner of the photo) so it fills the background paper. Then, over in the layers pallet, try out the different blend modes to see if you get the effect you like.

Once you have the effect, you can use a hue/saturation adjustment layer to change the color.
