To upgrade or not

Hi Fellow scrappers,
I am currently working with Adobe Elements 6 and it's fine; except that it is such a dark screen; I have difficulty seeing the triangles on the dropdown menus. I am wondering what other scrappers that have used both 6 and 7 think, is it worth upgrading? and if so; do they think a download is easy to install or should I stick with buying a CD. In New Zealand the price is about $140 I think, and I can buy a download from Adobe for around $79.
Question 2
When I first began working on the computer I bought Microsoft Picture it and with it came 4 CDs of card pictures but Adobe does not open CDs and it seems such a waste to have all that material sitting there.Is there any way I can access them as the programme no longer works, I don't want to do anything illegal! Hoping somebody can advise me.

Hi Tilly ...

I think that most folks who have not already upgrading are now leaving it until another version of PSE comes out. There is no news of when that is likely to be but they do usually issue a new version each year and PSE7 came out in 2008 :)

Agree with Wendy, if you haven't upgraded already, I'd certainly wait. It has got to be coming real soon.

Regarding Picture It...I had a couple of different versions of it on my computer, but looks like I uninstalled it a while back when I was cleaning my computer so I can't dink with it to see what's up. I only opened it a couple of times to see what it was about and never used it. Guess I don't remember any CD's with pictures with what I have otherwise I'd look at them.

What file format are the files you are attempting to open? Are they MIX, PNG's, JPG's?

Reason I'm asking is that I'm assuming they are MIX. And assume Elements doesn't have the option/capability to view MIX files (assume you've checked that, right?). If it was only a matter of going to your tools and telling your computer to open MIX files with Elements, that would be easy. But I don't think you can. So if they are MIX files, you probably need to see if a file type converter is available. I know when I changed from PSP to CS2, I had a bunch of PSP tubes that I loved. I was able to find a converter for them. Sometimes you can find coverters for free, sometimes you need to pay...sometimes you find stuff, but it doesn't work. In googling, it seems like some people have a work around, but it would certainly take a long time to convert all those CD's. It involves opening word and inserting your MIX picture into it-anyway....you can google and find a zillion threads on that.

Maybe someone will see this thread who has experienced your situation and will offer some insight or know of a converter that works well. If not, google and google and google until you find something helpful. Good luck.

Thank you Wendy, I'll do that as I don't have unlimited funds and it is expensive to keep upgrading if it's not necessary.
