PSE 8, having trouble with the move tool

Is anyone else having trouble with the move tool. Whether I have a layer selected or not, sometimes the move tool works and sometimes it doesn't, very random. I can't see anything else I am doing wrong!

Hi ...

First thing is that you do need a layer selected to use the Move Tool ... and also you have to have something to Move.

Is the thing you are trying to Move on its own layer ??

I've also found, that if you are not zoomed in, and there is transparency around an object, if you don't have your mouse exactly over the object, it won't "grab" it - it will grab what is underneath - so make sure you zoom in a little.

I figured it out! If you cannot move something, uncheck "auto select layer" in the options bar, then your item can be moved!

Auto Select Layer simple means that when you click on a item it will select the layer that it is one ... however it does mean that you have to be careful that you do click on the item itself.
