I am a huge fan of matte paper. I use it for all my greeting cards - for my photo collage Christmas newsletters and even for prints to frame for the walls of my house.

I find the definition of the layering effect of PSE4 appears very detailed when I use matte. And you would think photos would look poor, but the definition is just as good as with glossy.

I too use only matte photo papers. I love the look and feel of them, especially under page protectors.

I have always used paper that I buy in bulk at Costco - somply because it is so cheap -- BUT, I recently got a beautiful card done on matte paper and was wondering if anyone knew of a good, cost effective source.
Thanks!

I always use matte instead of glossy finish- love the feel and love the look- plus less finger prints when people handle them

My favorite photo paper at home at the moment is the Epson Premium Luster Paper. It's not matte, but it's not glossy, either. I've heard the Epson Enhanced Matte paper's good, too; I'd like to try that!

But I don't print my scrapbook stuff at home. I hope to get a wide format printer one day, and then I will! :) And then I'll have to make the matte vs. glossy choice.

Hello,

I have bought several selections of paper from Red River Paper online and have bought their prescored cards with envelopes.

I have never been disappointed.

I primarily buy Epson because I have an Epson printer

For greeting cards, I use Epson Double Sided Matte Paper 47 lb 9.7 mil. I use double sided so the graphics inside of my greeting cards are as sharp as the outside. I use 9.7 mil so the card feels substantial. Look out though. If the box does not say "double sided" it is matte coated on only one side.

For scrapbooking, where thickness is an issue - use Epson Enhanced Matte paper - it's 10 mil. But this product only has a matte finish on one side.

For the highest end result, I use Epson Premier Art Matte Scrapbook Photo Paper. It is 55lb 12 mil - but it has a slight beige tint to it. It comes in both 8.5x11 and 12x12. It's hard to find, but Adorama has it pretty cheap. I bought it through Amazon and they forwarded my purchase to Adorama. However the price I got at Amazon was lower than the price I would've gotten had I gone directly to Adorama. Go figure.

For scrapbooking/layering, I use a lesser quality matte cardstock. I've found the results of the clarity of graphics is not much different product by product, but the important issue for me is flimsiness. If flimsiness is not an issue - such as with layering - I use the cheaper products.

Our Office Max often has buy one get one free. I wait until then to purchase.

Or our Best Buy has a free shoppers card - where when you use it - you can get $10 off paper when you purchase two ink cartridges.

I also use Epson Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper - 27 lb 4.9 mil - coated matte on only one side. I use this for all my correpondence (yes I actually use snail mail sometimes) Even if I am not including a graphic in my letter, I like the clarity of the text using matte paper.

You can use matte paper with the plain paper setting to save ink. The results will not be 100% - but it will be much higher than using plain paper and the plain paper setting. The matte finish stops the ink from wicking.

I only use gloss or semi gloss when printing photos.

HI
I have an Epson 1270 wide format printer and just started using their 12x12 heavy matte scrapbook paper. I really like it! It isn't cost effective tho. $19.99 for 10 sheets (you can print on both sides). happy jean

That is absolutely my favorite paper. I love the soft beige color and the thickness of the cardstock. It makes great looking greeting cards.

Try buying your paper on line. I purchased through Amazon and they forwarded my order to Adorama. When I went to Adorama to check their price - it was actually higher than the price I was given when the order was funneled through Amazon. Strange.

Anyway - I purchased 5 boxes of the 8.5x11 - my only complaint? The boxes came with corners bent. I decided to ask for an additional discount and keep the paper because I usually cut the stuff up anyway - I make greeting cards and prefer making 5x7 cards - so I just cut off the bent corners.

However, that won't be possible if you are using your paper to scrapbook. But the saving will be worth trying to buy it on-line. If you get paper with bent corners, you could always send it back.

Try googling the paper by name and a number of buying sites should come up. It has to be cheaper than store prices - I never see that paper on sale anywhere.
