Okay, I hate Norton!

Anyone use the anti-virus from Zone Labs?

Or any other recommendations?

I use eTrust Anti Virus from http://home2.ca.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayProductDetailsPage&SiteID=caconsum&Locale=en_US&Env=BASE&productID=50698000 and find it very good. I have been using it from the very beginning before CA bought out Vet.

me too Norton is just a pain if you ask me I have used Avast for a long time now and it works just find. and it is free..

I agree about Norton - it's a memory hog, and just gets in the way when you are trying to do stuff ("Do you really want to access this page?" asks Norton. Well... YES! If I didn't want to access it, I wouldn't have!);

Anyway - I am also using a free anti-virus called AVG Free. Easy and quick to download, and hasn't been any trouble yet (been using it for about two years or so).

I have used AVG for a long time. My preacher/computer guru recommends it to everyone he helps and has it installed in his computer. Has never had any trouble with it. It has all the bells and whistles that Norton has, like automatic updating and scanning.

And the best part is it is free. You can't go wrong with that.

AVG is great! I have it on one of my computers, and we have it at work also. Never a problem and always updated. An excellent program.

On my home PC I'm using Windows Live OneCare. There was a free 30-day demo and it covers EVERYTHING from viruses and worms to spyware, pop-ups, adware and anything else we don't want to deal with. Plus, it updates automatically, and it also reminds you to back up your files periodically, which is great for me because I always seem to put it off.

After the trial I signed up for the service. I think it's $49 a year and the great part is, it's good for up to three computers -- so I can use it on my home PC, my old computer and my laptop as well! Can't do that with Norton!

I have used Zone Alarm for years and have been very happy with it, but it only covers one computer. Never had a problem with it. I did purchase it and do not use the free version. We have three and the other two need to have new programs, so I may look into the one Jan mentioned.

The reason I asked about Zone Alarm is I had it years ago and it actually shut my computer down when it was under attack by a worm, or was it trojan? Anyway, Norton certainly doesn't do that. Then I got a free copy of Norton with some tax software I purchased so I switched to it, and I've had a LOT of trouble. My computer runs w-a-a-ay slower now. I also have had other problems like not being able to send email, which ended up being due to Norton.
THanks for the suggestions. I'm going to check into all of them before making a decision.

Hi, this is what I use:

ZoneAlarm Security Suite


Includes the features available in ZoneAlarm Pro, plus IM Security, Parental Control, Identity Protection, Anti-virus protection, Junk E-mail Filtering, and offers protection for mobile laptop users and wireless home networks.
I work remotely and this software is the only one that my employer will allow. I have not had any trouble with it, although I think it takes a bit more computer knowledge to use the security features more than the default settings.

FYI - I also use both Mozilla Firefox for a browser and Thunderbird for email. This also helps cut down on viruses, spyware and spam. HTH -c-

I have had AVG the free one and just bought Mcafee because mt desktop had something i could not get rid of.I bought their 8 in 1 for 3 computers for around $100 for the year.
