Something simple and cheap. Any suggestions?

I just ordered the Epson Perfection 3590. I've always like Epson products so am going for Epson again. It has all the features I want including negative scanning and was about $150 Cdn. I'll let you know what I think once I get it - should be here in a few days.

I have an Epson Perfection 4870 that I've been using for about 2 years and been very happy with. It does a great job on negatives and slides from about 40 years ago.

Taking a quick look at the Epson site, it looks like the current comparable model is the 4490 for around $200.

Epson hp and fuji are my top 3 and they all have something in the 100 -150 cdn range.

You can't go wrong with an Epson Perfection. I love mine and it does a great job on slides too!

Scanner CanoScan LiDe 25 $50

I have a CanoScan LiDe 30 and LOVE it; The only thing I wish it did was negatives. I also do Geneology and love the portablitiy of the CanoScan, it fits perfectly in my computer bag with my laptop.

Hope this helps

I don't do a lot of scanning, but this is the scanner I have. I use it along with my Canon i9900 printer. I scan old photos, new photos and items that I want to create my own paper from and I get GREAT results from it. I have never scanned a negative, so I don't know how it would work for that. I am a big fan of the Canon products.

That's what I've been using for about 6 months, and I love it! The negative scanning is a little slow; it takes about a minute per frame on the negative. But I love having that feature, and I'm always using the scanner for something or other. :)

I haven't had a chance to use the Epson Perfection 3590 I got at work, but I see it doesn't seem to be available any more. Now I need a new one for home. Anyone have any experience with the 4590?

the epson 4490 is being shipped to me right now. Got it from Costco but I don't have a local Costco so I bought online. Just around $200 after shipping costs. I have had a bunch of cheap scanners and haven't been pleased with them. I am ready for a good one. The 'digital ice' scanner software that comes with this model looks pretty good. I have a TON of photos to scan and doing the clean up in the scanning process will mean more photos get scanned. Yes, I can do a lot of the clean up in photoshop but at times it is more important to get quantity scanned than the perfection of a few.

My son is convinced that it would be quicker if I just used my digital camera to photograph the photos instead of scanning them. I have a 6mp DSLR and could set up a shooting place with daylight lamps and such but I have soooooooo many photos I want to scan. I don't know if that is what I really want to do. I offered him my old scanner that I am replacing that still functions but he just laughed. He has been complaining about the quality of the output of that scanner for some time. He would rather do without a scanner.

I have an older Epson Perfection 2400 Photo scanner and want a newer one, but I am not sure if a newer one will fix my problem. I think my problem is color correction from scans...I just can't get them to reproduce teh same way.

Someone told me that HP scanners are better than Epson, but I am usually an Epson fan, so i haven't the slightest idea.

I am curious to keep reading your thoughts on this topic.
