I remember when, in PSE, I changed a photo to B&W, there were options as to shades/styles ("newspaper" "portrait" "landscape," "infra-red," etc. were the sort of styles I could choose from). I'm not finding that in CS2. I expected to find it when I clicked adjustment layer button, but don't see anything like that there, nor under "Image." Is it done strictly with levels in CS2, or am I just not looking in the right places?

Thanks ahead of time.

I never installed 2 on the machine I have right now so I can't remember....but if it has a a IMAGE>channel mixer, there are a few preset selections there.

I think it was 3, where IMAGE>Black & White, with it's pull down preset box and customised showed up.

Of course, then there are actually styles or actions that you can get that effect. Can't remember back that far.

That sounds like something from PhotoshopEssentials...

I don't know what Photoshop Essentials is, but it is definitely in PSE.

I love this opition in PSE. As a matter of fact, I used it when I was restoring the old photos of hubby in my latest page I posted. It works great. Hope you figure it out in Photoshop.

Hi Shar ...

In CS5 it is under Image>Adjustments B&W ... its probably the same in CS2. Just look at the top of the box that comes up and you will see Presets, although they have different names to the Elements ones they do a very similar job. (The names in Elements are geared down to make them more understandable to the hobby users)

Wendy :)

Thanks Wendy. BUT...CS2 does not have B&W under Image>Adjustments. Must be a feature that was added to both CS and PSE in versions that are newer than CS2. There are certainly manual ways to accomplish those looks. I do appreciate the "suggestions" that are available, though. Someday (soon I hope) I will upgrade to CS5, and can certainly use it in PSE when I "need" to. :)

Hi Alberta ...

Where is the option in Elements ??

Wendy

Sorry I didn't get back with you. I was going to check when I got home last night, but didn't even power up my laptop. It is under Enhance in PSE5 and PSE7. Then convert to Black and White.

Hi Shar ..

Sadly I no longer have CS2 installed on this Mac but I checked CS3 and it was in there. In CS3 & CS5 it is under ... Image>Adjustments>Black & White and Black & White comes directly below Brightness & Contrast .. its shortcut is Alt,Shift,Control,B

If its not there in CS2 then perhaps CS3 was the first version to have it ?? ... but thats really strange because it is in PSE3 and thats much earlier.

Just double checked...No Black and White option under Image>Adjustments. Very weird. Oh well.

Shar, did you try IMAGE>Channel Mixer? Had mentioned it in my earlier post. I know when B & W showed up in 3, they made a big deal about it, but I believe if I recall, people where using Channel Mixer before that.

Well, Doris, I'm sure there are some fun possibilities there, but not at all what I'm referring to.
