I got a Wacom tablet for my birthday! Yea!! But I am clueless on what to do with it. What do you like to do with yours? What do you use it for the most? Do you have any great beginner Wacom hints? Thanks so much!

When I first got my tablet, I used it for everything to try and get used to the feel of it; actually hiding the mouse for a couple of days!! I believe there are some quite good tutorials/information on the Wacom website.

Happy Birthday to You! I use mine for anything that I want to be precise with. Karen's right.. hide the mouse and get used to it. Only takes a week or two!

I usually use it with the brushes or lasso tools. Enjoy.

Hello,

As soon as I open Photoshop to begin a project, I pick up my Wacom and pen and except for the typing of text, the tablet is all I use.

I don't know what I would do without it.

are there different types of wacom tablets, or is the $99 the one to get?

There are different sizes the smaller ones periodically go on sale for under $70. I have one of the smaller ones and it is more than adequate for my needs and doesn't take up a lot of space - about the size of a reqular mouse pad.

Have a question - what is the difference between a Wacom Tablet and a Hyper Pen Drawing Tablet?

Penny,

Haven't got a clue. Just a guess, the name and the price :D

My personal experience was that I had a Hyper Pen Tablet and it didn't work very well. I now have a Wacom and it works great. Yes, the Wacom costs more, but it is much better IMHO.

Wacom is the way to go
I almost NEVER use the mouse, even when surfing. I LOVE my tablet. I started with the intuos2 4x5 and even use it with dual monitors so it is large enough for me and doesn't take up any realestate on the desk since my hubby uses the wacom mouse on top of the tablet. It saved my wrist.

Now that I have a laptop -and my small wacom is soooo portable - I often have both computers going so I bought the cheaper graphire version so that I have tablets at both computers. The graphire is fine and you probably won't notice anything but I am use to the intuous and notice that the graphire isn't as smooth.

I have had my intuous for a few years now. I had to replace the cover for it but I just bought a sheet of .20mil acrylic traced out the markings, cut it an it has been working like a charm for a couple years now.

a graphic tablet is a necessary tool for me, not a luxury. If I didn't have the tablet I wouldn't be using the computer. My wrist wouldn't have lasted, THAT is for certain
