Hi everyone,
I have been using photoshop for quite some time and I am pretty proficient in it.
I just saw the tutorial that showed how you can make straight strokes with the brush by clicking, choosing a new point and shift clicking to create the straight line.
I have been trying this unsuccessfully for the past few days. I have done google searches and everyone describes the technique the same way, and no one talks about having issues with it. I watched the tutorials multiple times to see how Linda has done it.
When I do it, I get a dot, and then another dot in the second place I click, but no straight stoke joining the two dots. . . Any clues as to what I am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any responses
Rose

Hi Rose ...
... and welcome.
It should work OK ... just try it again:
Click on the first point and then hold down the shift key and click down on the second point. (Keep holding the shift key down whilst you do that second click)
If it still doesn't work then it may be worth deleting the prefs ...
Do let us know if you manage to get it working :)

You know I debated for a REALLY long time whether or not I should make that post. . . . of course 2 minutes after I posted it I read a web site that suggested I
1) Clear the Brush Controls
2) Reset the Locked Settings
3) Reset the Brushes themselves
and. . . . now it works! 2 days of agonizing over it and I find the solution 2 minutes after I post for help. Sorry about that.
Cheers,
Rose

Hi Rose ...
Oh I know the feeling ... you struggle with something for ages and as soon as you ask the question you discover the answer yourself :)

Thank you for posting the "fix" you found. It is always so helpful when you get SO frustrated with some of these tools. Glad you got it working for you....now work with the spacing and scatter of the dots, and watch what cool dotted lines you can make with that technique. These fun settings are behind the "more options" of the brush tool. Enjoy. TYFS.

Thanks Priss,
I have already played with the brush settings (that's probably what screwed up my ability to do the straight lines to begin with). I had simply never heard of the click / shift click technique to make the straight lines until I watched one on Linda's tutorials. Up until then I had been making my straight lines through paths and then stroking the paths. . I would get the same effect but it would take me 5 times as long!
I've been using photoshop for 4 years, and learn more about it little by little. But I must say that the tips and tricks on this site are just so incredible, useful, simple, clear, practicle and easy to follow. You all make up a very cool group of people who are so opened to sharing your findings, it's rare - most groups always hold a little back.
