One of the days of our vacation, my daughter Karin took us all geocaching in the desert like area just a short walk away from their home. It was a hot, sunny day and I wasn’t sure how far I would get. My daughter Tara carried a folding chair for me just in case. My four grandchildren went twice as far as I did just running back and forth looking for the caches.Everyone had a turn with the GPS (which Karin had to explain to me). The first Amy found hanging from a tree just off the path a ways. This gave the co-ordinates for the second cache. My turn was down the path on the way to find the second cache. The second was up and down hills far to complicated for my leg so I waited for them to get the third co-ordinates, sitting at a fork in the path that Karin already knew they would have to pass. What a joy to be able to get that far. Since walking isn’t the best thing I do now days I was thrilled. The dessert like land held so much we don’t see here on the coast. Here I was walking amid the sagebrush and tumbleweed. Who would have thought I could do something like this? They even found a huge garter snake at one point. (thankfully it was not where I was sitting waiting for them) After finding the second cache and getting the final co-ordinates, the last leg began. After a short hunt they found the third cache. Karin brought it to me so I could open it since I couldn’t go down such a steep hill. After the kids all found something in the cache and replaced their choices with new things they had brought Karin took the cache back to it’s co-ordinates for the next geocachers to find. Looking at the awesome photos I took I still find it hard to believe that I was able to take part in something so much fun and healthy too. Of course we had water and snacks along the way as well. The kids had such a good time we decided to extend our vacation a day so Karin could take them out to another geocache site.
