Unhappy PSE 7 Watched Folder Option Duplicates ???

I have selected the option in PSE 7 for the organizer to notify me of files to be added from my watched folders. When the files appear they are all duplicated. I have tried selecting just one set and that works. However, if I view the organizer by file hierarchy, it sometimes appears that the folder that should contain the file is empty and a "duplicated" folder (it has the folder name in all caps with a ~ after the name) contains the file. Is this a PSE7 glitch? I'm using vista also. I just recently got a new vista pc and upgraded from 3 to 7. Never had these issues with 3.

I found that I had to go to the "duplicated" folder and delete those contents from the catalog and then go to the original folder location and add unmanaged contents to the organizer. Once that is done the duplicated folder name with the ~ disappears.

I like to use the watched folder option because I don't always remember certain scrapbook items that I have downloaded and need to add the organizer.

    I'm really stumped!

    Dawn,

I don't use the "Watched Folder" aspect, but I know from the Adobe Support forums that it can be buggy. Those names with the ~ in them are what you would see if you did a directory listing in DOS of folders whose names are longer than 8 characters. Have you done a File->Catalog->Repair lately? That might clear things up.

Most people over at the Adobe Forums suggest turning off Watched Folders. I don't use the organizer myself, but I do try to keep up with how it works.

Thanks Trish! I guess I don't understand why only the folder names that include the duplicates show up in CAPS~. It made the folder hierarchy look a mess. Basically I had for example my ScrappersGuide folder with all the sub folders listed. Then right below that I had the "duplicate" SCRAPP~ folder listed with all the subfolders. All the subfolders appeared empty except for the new folder of files I had imported from my watched files. If I went back up to the original ScrappersGuide folder, all the subfolders appeared to have files in them except the new folder which appeard empty. If I deleted the items from the catalog from the duplicate folder and added them to the one I wanted, then the "SCRAPP~" folder and all the subfolders disappeared from the hierarchy. I had to go back and do that to any new items I had imported using the watched folder option. Now my folder hierarchy no longer shows any folders with CAPS~.

So if I have a bug with the watched folders, I guess I will have to come up with a system of remembering what I have added to my scrap folders and what folders I have put them in. As of right now I download certain things and sometimes don't unzip them right away or even open PSE either. I guess it seemed easier to download what I wanted, put it in the correct folder and then let PSE7 find it for me so I could tag everything at once.

You mentioned you do not use the Organizer. Do you download, unzip and place the files in the correct folder and then open PSE7 and Get the files from the folder locations?

    Thanks for the help!

I do download, and usually unzip right away. I use a program called IMatch for keeping track of things now.

But, if I were to use PSE 7, I would download and unzip, and then immediately open the organizer and use the File->Get Photos and Videos->from Files and Folders option. I usually only download and unzip when I know I have time to import them into my organizer. But, I *know* where I keep my files and I have a "system" that I use, so that makes the most sense to me. In fact, the program I use will let me know if something has changed, and then I can import the stuff, but only if I want to or have time to.

I don't use watch folders either...it never has worked well for me in any version. I have a temporary folder in each of my main folders and a general temporary folder that I download my stuff to. That way I know if I have something in that folder, that I haven't imported it into my Organizer yet. After I unzip it, I'll import it into my Organizer and then use Organizer to move them to the right folder. It sounds more time-consuming than it really is. I have 3 kids interrupting me all the time and at least this way I won't lose my place.

Just an update I didn't change anything or reset any preferences and the Watched Folder option is no longer duplicating files when they come in. So for now, everything seems to be like it was when I used v3. However, I still can't use the slide bar in the brush picker and still have to use the up/down arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll through the brush sets. However, I can use the slider once I select a certain brush set to choose a particular brush.
