Default Need Help With Organizer From Old Computer to New

I need help getting started with PSE 5 on a new computer. My OLD computer was XP and all my digital scrapbook supplies where in subfolders in the following directory c:\Documents and Settings\Compaq-Administrator\My Documents\My Scrapbooking and they were all tagged in my Organizer to those locations. My new computer is a Windows 7 laptop. I used the Windows Easy Transfer utility to transfer all my data from the Old computer to the new computer. It put all my scrapbooking files in a different directory path. My question is how do I get Organizer to “see” my files without manually reconnecting over 5000 files to the new location? Do I have to make a path on my new computer that matches the directory path on the old computer and more all my files? Can I use a recent Organizer backup? I’m totally confused and need help. Oh, and yes, I know PSE 5 may not work on Windows 7, but I’d still have the same Organizer issue with PSE 9.

Your best bet with something like this is to...

    1. Install PSE 5 on the new computer and see if works. if it does....

    2. Go back the the old computer and do a backup (from within the Organizer) to an external hard drive or DVD's or whatever is convenient.

    3. Take the hard drive (or DVD's) to the new computer and do a restore (from within the Organizer).

The Organizer will know where everything is.

If PSE 5 doesn't work on the new computer, and you have to buy PSE 9... Install PSE 9 on the old computer, convert the PSE 5 catalog to PSE 9 (if it doesn't happen automatically, do a File->Catalog->Convert). Then do a backup in PSE 9 (File->Backup)to the external. Install PSE 9 on the new computer and do the restore (File->Restore).

This is the best way to accomplish this.

    Default Thank you

Trish, thank you so much. I knew I could get an answer here. Now I'm off to do it.
