Trouble with displacement map

I'm trying to make folded paper circles, but I can't get it to work. When I apply the displacement map, nothing happens. I've started all over again, and exactly the same thing happens...absolutely nothing. It doesn't even show up in the undo history. I'm sure that I'm missing something, but I can't figure it out! Help!

Save the displacement map in a different folder than the downloaded files.
