What am I doing wrong??? After creating the 'SCREEN' layer and clicking on CTL Delete my screen layer is filled with black instead of white. Am using PSE7 with Windows Vista.

Reverse your color chips. Background chip = white.
Or you can go to Edit>Fill Selection and then select white.
